Do you have a "display" gun in your home?

A Turk mauser and a Mosin 91/30 over the mantle. To the right of the fireplace is the gun cabinet that my father made for my 15th b'day and it always holds my favorite 5 long guns. Right now, from left to right, 1953 Hungarian M44, 1941 Ishapore no.1 mk3, Yugo M48A, 1952 Stevens 311H, and a 1945 Russian M44.

Yes. I have an AutoOrdnance .45 M1911A1 Commemorative in a glass case. It is a USAF Edition and has the 24Kt. gold lettering and Ivory handle grips. You can view it at http://www.ahfrichmond.com/ It is fully functional, however, they recommend against even racking the slide due to collectibility. It has a production run of 1911 (of course!). I've been tempted to put a P-Touch label on the case that says, "In case of emergencies, break glass." :D

I thought you meant maybe a 'take' gun - sort of the opposite of a 'throw' gun.

You know - an old beat up rifle in the corner. An offering for the average smash-and-grab burglar to take and leave happy so he will not go looking for the real stash.

lock & key here. would love a 'den' with solid locked door & weapons on wall & reloading bench, fridge, TV etc. but im in shared accomadation as a student so that aint goin 2 happen any time soon.

Tamara, I hear ya.

No, no display weapons, other than kitchen impliments.
Why display?

I have an antique British "Goose Gun" that's a display only model on the wall in the living room. A double barrel JP Clarrough & Bros 10 gauge blackpowder shotgun made in 1885. Belonged to my great uncle. Harley Nolden identified it for me a while back over at TFL. (Thanks Harley) Normally I don't keep guns that I don't shoot, but I made an exception for this one. Took it to a gunsmith and had the firing pins removed. Figured that was the best thing so that somebody wouldn't try to fire it with a modern smokeless powder shell.

Yes, but only because it gives me a finger hernia to shoot the darn thing. Looks nice next to Squeezy, anyway :)

Funny you should ask that

This is an as yet unresolved difference of opinion between my fiancé and myself. She wants a picture over our future mantle; I want a historical firearm (happen to have a family heirloom that would be great). Something about decor . Right now the “compromise†is an admittedly beautiful painting of the Texans fight at Devils Den (Gettysburg; July 2, 1863). I do have a gunrack that my grandfather made for me several years ago that is currently holding an old Winchester .351 and an old 30-30. Its not in the living room though. If I could have purchased this Bowie knife, I might have talked her into putting it above the mantle with a certain picture of the Alamo. Alas, I didn’t have the tens of thousands of dollars available. Kinda sad actually.

Why display?
Beautiful conversation pieces.

Well my Katana is also a beautiful conversation piece but it's also deadly sharp(Japanese sword). I think I'll just keep that one locked up too. I don't need to show off all my deadly weapons. God forbid someone breaks in and decides to use it on me....:uhoh:

Has absolutely nothing to do with...

..."showing off".

These things are (in some cases) quite pleasing to the eye, or interesting historic conversation pieces.

Now that you mention it, I do have a fairly eclectic selection of Smiths taking up a couple of shelves on a bookcase.

My knife collection is on display in my bedroom. (The rifles in my bedroom aren't "on display", I just keep those leaning up agains the wall...)

Some people want to keep everything under wraps. Me? I like living in an arms museum. :D

As long as your OK with giving an intruder free ammo and options to kill you with....personally, I'm too much a coward. I prefer to keep the weapons to myself, but that's just me.:scrutiny:

We don't get too many intruders out in these parts. Someone did have their VCR stolen some 20 years ago, but we're pretty sure we know who did it.

If this hypothetical intruder wants to chance an empty Martini-Henry rifle (that's a 150-yr old gun that they probably won't have any ammo for in their pockets) or an empty S&W against my loaded Beretta, well, que sera, sera, baby...

I had a two pounder from an old Spanish barq in my living room until a wealthy guest offered me more than my wife thought was worth dusting it. It was made in Toledo(Espana) and had 1.5 inch bore and weighed 400 pounds or so. It is now on display at his restaraunt .

Well, you must live in a better area than me: a murder across the street, a rape just down the street, a kidnapping to a prostitution ring in Revere (which she escaped), another murder not far from where I live (head crushed with a rock, sexually assaulted), another woman murdered by her ex-boyfriend and left in the trunk of her car....all in the same small suburb.

If you know who stole the VCR, you live in a small quiet town. Not me. I don't want to leave weapons out like a buffet of options for whomever breaks in. I'LL KEEP THE WEAPONS, thank you.;)

Forgot, another woman from our fair city, whom I went to school with and had her mother as one of my teachers, was in the first plane that hit the towers on 9/11 -- but that's a whole other type of violence...:uhoh:

Nothing on display except the British 19th cent. lance and the Afgan matchlock in the den. But when we are home there is a gun within reach in every room. They are just not very visible. (Yes, the one in the bathroom IS stainless!)

Sounds like a nice neighborhood, kinda reminds me why I moved out to the boonies.

My guns are unlocked, I found out that it takes less room to keep your ammo locked up. Only four guns loaded and none of them are on display. I might add that it would take a cutting torch and a really big doggie treat to get into the house.
