I only have three milsurps:

A Vz 24, VZ 58 and STGW 57. I do have Bayo's for the 24 and 57. And am looking for one for the 58. Show me your pics..

In my view, they seem to cost a good 1/4th the price of the rifle. I'd rather put that money toward another rifle. I have no use for the bayonet other than to look at it. But the rifle is useful, even if just to shoot. I'm never going to use the bayonet for anything...

Now, if they were really cheap, like a few bucks, then sure, I'd buy them.

If you collect milsurps (as opposed to just buying them because they're cheap, or for plinkers, etc., etc.) it's of no relevance that a bayonet is something of an anachronism in modern times. In most cases the milsurps themselves are anachronisms, which is why they're surplus to begin with.

Yes, they can be expensive. Some cost nearly as much as the rifle to get a correct one in good shape. Just try finding a good-quality non-reproduction bayonet for a Japanese Arisaka or German Mauser. When I bought mine, those ranged between $100-$150, and prices continue to climb. Again, though, to a collector that may just be part of the process, irrespective of the bayonet's practicality.

For me, I collect WW2 milsurps. If the rifles I have would have been fitted with a bayonet during WW2, then I try to find one to go with the rifle. That, however, doesn't mean that I have bayonets for all my WW2 rifles. My M1 Carbine, for example, would not have had a bayonet lug during WW2, even though it was given one when it was rearsenaled after WW2. Hence, I have no M1 Carbine bayonet. For my Finn M39, it did have a lug during WW2, but history tells us that only a handful of Civil Guard units actually received bayonets. Since my rifle was not used by the Civil Guard, I'm not searching for a bayonet for it.

Luckily bayo's are fairly cheap around here. I paid about 30 Euro's for the STGW and 25 for the Vz 24.

I have a Wilkinson Sword bayonet (16"?)for my No1 Mk111 Enfield. brings back the bleak days of the Somme. My Garand has a 16" (AFH Brand). I also have a Norinco SKS with the underfolder triangular bayonet. You should have one for all your milsurps.

I have some, mainly those that came with the gun. I'll also pick one up if it's offered with the gun as an option for a bit extra. These include two different types of Lee Enfield bayonets, a few Mosin pig stickers, an odd Mauser bayonet or two, and one for my Swede Mauser M 96.

I think the most I paid was for my Martini Henry bayonet. That rifle just wasn't complete without the bayo.

I still need to get a good, representive Garand bayonet. The price on those is high as they are pretty collectable these days.

My 11-17 Model 1907 bayonet

No real bayonets yet, just the spike for the SKS. The Russian/Yugo etc SKS with a real bayo looks all-business.

Two LE #5s, one #4, a Yugo Mauser and now a Garand.
The #5 Jungle Carbine bayos are not cheap.

Bayonets, I like bayonets!:D

Still need to buy a bayonet for my Arisaka Type 99 and my Swede M38.

Here are a few of mine.....

I have one for my 1903 A3 and one for my Kar98k... the repro for my 98k doesn't fit worth a damn but it's a hell of a knife.

I try to get bayonets, strippers, and slings for all mine. If I can't get an original, I'll get a repo (bayo's for the M39 are VERY hard to come by). I'm interested more in the engineering than the history, so I like to have them as complete as possible. I don't mind repos if they are not misrepresented (the M39 repo bayonet I have has 1999 stamped as the date so it can't claim counterfeit).

Just one, my dad's M4

Bought "a carbine" from the CMP for it ... somehow I ended up with 5 ... no way can I afford real bayonets for each of them now!

I think there a must, matching isn't all that important to me but its always better if it does.

I have a 577/450 Martini Henry Enfield with bayonet. The bayonet was manufactured by Wilkinson Sword, London England. It has the original leather scabbard. (too big to call a sheath!)

Depends. My Mosin Nagant M91/30 came with one, and I bought one for the Arisaka 99 my grandfather brought back from Okinawa. Unless there's a particular reason, I generally don't go chasing down bayonets for my rifles. They're just one more thing to take up space and empty my wallet. It's not like I'll get real enjoyment out of them, like I do the rifle itself. I can shoot the rifle; what can I do with the bayonet?
