Do you keep your factory handgun boxes?

I bought an unusual item, a 13 year-old NEW gun, aka old, new stock. The revolver had never been sold since being received by the large gun store years earlier. It came with the box, plus the manufacturers box that it was shipped in of nearly the same dimensions. The 'box' value adds up for some people! :D

I always keep mine now. The few times I've traded a gun without a box and papers, dealers took advantage of the missing accessories to beat me down. Some started out like "Well, I'd give you $50 more for it, but I almost can't sell it without the box" and crap like that. I stash them in clear plastic bags in the atic to keep them out of the way.

Southpaw, dealers will use any excuse that works to swing their deal at the price they want to pay... you see that little mark on the grips.... Anyway, tis the way of things on the dealer end, but they don't necessarily discount on the selling end if there is no box.

Yeah, I noticed that with all these Pythons for sale at astronomical prices these days. Doesn't seem to matter to them if the box is there or not.

I keep them. They are all the plastic carry case variety that serve as a "locking case" which must be used for transporting the firearm outside the home with the addition of a lock. That will be a selling feature to the next owner if I ever have to sell (no plans, I don't anticipate selling anything, ever). I store the pistols in them, the ones that are not actively loaded and immediately available for use. I feel that this protects them from accidental damage, rather than just knocking around "naked".

If someone sold me a "classic" pistol and it came in the original box, you bet I would keep it.

I have my the box that my Great Grandfather's .357 Colt THREE-FIFTY-SEVEN Revolver came in from 1968. I also have the original receipt.

I'm keeping my boxes, even if they aren't worth much by themselves, maybe my grandkids can say they have something to remember ME by. To me, that's worth much more than money or a few square feet of storage.
