do you prefer a 1 or 2 hand hold?

The best place to have your gun in a car is to have the gun under your left thigh. 1. you can reach it quickly (faster then having it holstered on you or between the seat and console). 2. It is not visible. Also having tinted windows would be great.

There's a misunderstaning of the meaning of defensive shooting or self defense. Actually there are so many different definitions. But to me is just not about 1. Trying to make the quickest shot posible, 2. Making myself a smaller target or 3. Making the most accurate kill shot. For me, its a combination of the first 2 with the last one being a bonus. Should I ever be in a situation when I have to shoot it out with someone, my main goal is to get away as fast as possible- shoot fast accurate shots while making myself a small target.... and make my getaway, if I hit and or kill my assailant... great. A prolonged battle must be avoided.

That is debatable. I've tried that postition and decided against it. It not only would be uncomfortable to have pistol wedged under my left leg for long drives, but when pulling the weapon from under my leg my knee gets flagged unless I make a conscious effort to divert the barrel around my leg and then up. Having my pistol close to my gear shift where my right hand is anyway is more comfortable to me. There is no best place that will encompass everyone. Your best place is the best for you, but maybe not the best for me other individuals. The place that is the most comfortable and safest for each individual is his BEST place.

Amen to that. Getting safely away from a fire fight is indeed important. I only carry two mags with me. That won't lend me a very long gun battle.

I definitely prefer one handed for any shooting distances out to about 10 yards. Any range where it could quickly become hand to hand. If someone closes distance and starts trying to stab you and whatnot, you're going to want one hand free to block, grapple, claw at eyes, etc.

I prefer the 1 handed stance. standing in the dueling stance with your side facing your opponent makes you less of a target. Shooting in the crouch stance (not a low low crouch you see in old police films) with left hand over your heart shields your chest (not a bad concept). It leaves your left hand open to protect you at close range, or reach for a backup gun. If you can practice and become proficient with one hand...then you can do all the better when you need to use two hands. It gives you more ability to move and see rather than be locked into place aimed in one direction with the isoceles stance or Weaver stance. And as you said, it is more comfortable

I do practice with the Weaver at times though, but primarily one hand.
