Do you prefer different rifles or 1 standardized weapons system?

Do you like to use the same "weapon system" for multiple roles?

I personally prefer only having to learn one system... for example:

Close Range/Carbine: Don't really have anything against a quality AK, but I'd prefer an M4 clone.

Medium Range/ General Purpose Rifle: This niche could be filled with any number of plinkers or hunting rifles, but I prefer my full-length AR.

Long Range/Precision Rifle: there are some nice hunting rifles and 7.62 MBRs, but if I had to build a platform to really reach out it would be either an AR-10 clone or some kind of SPR facsimile.

So would you rather learn one system really well, or is variety the spice of life?

abundance

I do not have an abundance of resources. For rifles I would pick a 308 first for capacity and range. Otherwise a 45-70 for one shot knock downs.
I would want to be able to use different loads for different aplications. Standard loads on light and heavy ends with hot loads heavy and light. Should be able to have all the variety I can stand within a narrow choice.
I will be shooting for accuracy in both with shorter barrels for long and short distances. Been out of rifles for way to long.

My preference is to have one "go-to" rifle for everything out to the point that I can't see my target with the naked eye. My choice for this rifle is my "tanker" M1 (with bayonet for really close range).

Still, I want to develop at least a functional command of as many rifle designs as possible. Like Quigley commented, "Said I never had much use for one. Never said I didn't know how to use it.”:)

Same kind of feeling here, just have not got there yet.
Planning on building a scout, details changed twice today, to have a one rifle can do it kind of thing.
I do however have a good amount of options in the safe, 2 lever actions, 4 slide actions ( 2 rifle 2 shot gun ) 4 bolt actions 3 semi's ( 1 rifle and 2 pistol )
To each there own, Dad and I have 4 Mod 70's between us. If I had one in a normal caliber it would be my go rifle but I don't.

It's taken years but I've finally found my weapons "system" and they're all based on the AK design. I have my Saiga-12s for close work, ORF-built AK-74's for medium range & my NDM-86 Dragunovs for "long distance, the next best thing to being there". Manual of arms is identical for all of them, mags change the same, all have the same optics siderail making optics completely interchangeable if needbe, same charging handle operation & very similar take-down/maintenance procedure.

I love buying different rifles, hanguns and shotguns. If I had to be held to one weapon system I would grow bored. There's just too many nice guns and cartidges on the market not to be taking advantage of the offerings today. I do like to have a specific gun for a specific need but, that's aweful easy to get hung up on too much too. Many guns will perform many tasks well. Do I have my preferences? Absolutely.

1911 in .45, for close in work-
M14 for everything else-

America had it right for a little while, what happened?

I’m still working on picking my systems. I know I like SA autos for carry, and 870 pumps for my shotgun, but I am still deciding on which rifle works for me. I have an ar and I like it do to muscle memory left over from the army. I plan to pick up a saiga ak to try out those and see if I like them more. I have a whole family of milsurps bolts and am leaning towards the Enfield for my personal preference. Even when I do pick a system, I will shoot other guns for fun, but try to do all training and drills with the "system"
