Do You Resize New Brass?

Oh man! $%^^!!!, Getting old sucks! My measurements were indeed 1.074" to 1.076". Typing has become a "hunt and peck" chore and I normally have to reread a post looking for old age faux pas (especially spelling). These darn keys are pretty close together!

Thanks for the kind reminder GDF...
Happens to me all the time. I especially hate the stupid autoincorrections most.

I gave up on finding 357 Magnum range brass and just ordered some Starline. Should I resize it before loading?
Yes, yes, and by all means yes. Shouldn't even be a question. I go through thousands and thousands of new Starline 357 brass every year. 4K this month alone. There is about a 20% occurence of out of round due to shipping. It is also slightly over sized, and the case tension is on the lighter side. Resizing will make each piece consistent. You can validate this by doing some unsized and sized strings of new brass....I consistently see about a 10% improvement of SD across the board on every caliber I load sizing new brass.

OK got to ask, what the heck are you doing to go through that much mag brass....

I have always resized new brass . I have noticed the case mouths of some of the new brass always seem out of round so i have just thought it was good practice with new brass to do it .

New brass?

I scarcely knew there was such a thing.

The only "new" brass I bought was 500 rounds of Norma 30 Carbine brass that I was going to form into 5.7 mm Johnson cases, so I didn't see a need to work the brass any more than absolutely necessary.

The brass, by the way, was in various stages of being processed when I developed Multiple Sclerosis and ended up serving as an accidental test on storing brass by various methods and various types of containers. I posted an extensive post on it about a decade ago. Since it was a direct comparison of cases from the same lot of new brass stored in the same garage in Texas, just in different containers, I think it can be highly informative.

I put them through the die just far enough to straighten out the necks due to dings and stuff from shipping. But other than that, not really.
