Do you shoot in competition?

Yes, like geekay I now shoot SSAA Field Rifle and Scoped 3-Positional matches, both rimfire and centrefire, at local, State and National levels; Hunter class benchrest at club level (occasionally).

Have also shot UIT Standard Pistol, Air Pistol and fullbore in competition. Oh, and shotguns once or twice a year.

I shoot benchrest.

Kentucky Rifle, you really oughta look into it... All the cameraderie of a good shootin' match, without the exercise (unless you count loading one's vehicle...). We've got folks who are in wheelchairs who shoot... very well too...

Yes, I shoot with my 9mm Glock in one of our club's pistol teams. We compete at county level. Maybe, with enough training and a little luck I could make it to the state championships this year.

OK Bogie...

I'll look into bench rest shooting. I don't think I'll ever be as good as I once was. I'm in my 50's and I've got PTSD. But it might be good therapy. Especially, if there are other guys there in the same boat.

Thanks,
KR

I had entertained the notion and obtained my IDPA membership and other than Tuesday night shoots at my local club, I've had little time or opportunity for other than work and family.

The best intentions of mice and men...

I encourage all people to engage in sponsered competition. Many, Many years ago like most people I thought I was a pretty good shot and new a lot about firearms. Then one day in order to be eligible to purchase an M1 Garand I joined not one but two rifle clubs. I found out how little I knew about being a real rifleman and how low a skill I actually had.

Engaging in competition really seperates the men from the boys and will enhance your skill astronmically and your knowledge at least 10 fold as to the potential of the weapon as well as your own skill.

I have shot competatively for the Kentucky Army National Gaurd for the last four years. My first three were on the pistol team and the last was on the rifle team. I have shot at the state, regional, and national level. I like the National Gaurd matches because they are combat and all the weapons are equal.

I need to echo Arcane's comments. I participate in competition, but do not really compete. I just enjoy the far out shooting galleries the competition provides and being around other shooters. I do ICORE (International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts), IDPA, IPSC and some PPC. Strangely enough I usually place ahead of about 24% of the auto shooters (I shoot revolvers ONLY) in IPSC. Another fun thing and running joke is that I've also collected several 2nd through 4th place trophies from local IPSC matches in the Revolver catagory. Aren't too many revolver shooters in the club and someone has to fill out the 4 places receiving note. Ha!

I shot trap for30 yrs until I injured my shoulder mountain biking, now I shoot sporter rifle competition with a .22 rimfire.
