so how do you store your gun in the safe, do you store it unloaded, or nothing in chamber but the mag loaded?
I sleep with a gun under my pillow, every few days I'd switch to different USP9/45, P2000, or my Glock ;) instead of unloading the mag, I was thinking to just leave it with loaded mag but empty chamber.

Yes I store loaded firearms in my safes and I use bright orange hang tags on the guns that advertise the fact the guns are loaded to avoid any potential liability.

Then again I also keep a few guns stashed on my property that are loaded, locked up, and unknown to anyone but me.

Nope. A gun in a safe is a gun in a safe, I see no reason to have it loaded. I have 2 strategicaly place houseguns loaded and ready to go, but thats it for the loaded ones.

Revolvers are alwase loadeded. The only time i keep a loaded automatic is if i cant take my CCW with me for some reason and have to leave it at home. i try not to store magazine fed arms loaded.

I keep my revolvers and one or two autos loaded while in the safe.

All others in my safe have loaded mags in them but no round chambered.

I keep a Glock with one in the chamber holstered to the side of my bed in one of the mattress straps and my shotgun with the tube loaded, but not chambered, hidden in a corner.

In my safe I keep one long range bolt rifle, one AR-15, one 590 shotgun and a 4" 686 loaded with empty chambers (except, of course, the 686). All others in the safe are empty. When I or my wife is home the safe door is open, and gets locked when we leave the house.

Funny some people cannot find a reason why a gun in a safe should be loaded . . . I cannot find a reason why NOT to.

My "active" ones are all loaded. My seldom used ones are in boxes or cases and are not loaded. Remember gun safety rule number one "all guns are loaded." So loaded or not I ALWAYS treat them the same so why NOT have them loaded? Saving mag springs could be a reason . . . okay, I'll give you that one! :neener:

No such thing.

My rule is that there is no such thing as an unloaded gun. For that reason, I follow my own rule and keep all of mine loaded. So if it has a trigger on it, it will kill me. That's my way of trying to keep myself alive around dangerous tools.

I keep most of my guns unloaded. All except my HD handgun...currently my G19.
But I do treat all my firearms as if they are loaded until I make certain,

I don't understand the purpose of keeping a loaded gun in the safe. If you're doing it for defense, it takes too long to get into a safe unless you have one of those small ones beside the bed with a hand-cutout keypad.

Here, if it's outside the safe it's atleast got a loaded magazine in it.

hanging on hooks on the door of the safe, they are unloaded.

On the shelf are my CCW weapons. There are only a few. Yes, I rotate from time to time....maybe once a week or so, usually due to wardrobe issues.

Anything on the shelf is loaded and ready to carry. Extra mag (or speedloader) for each is right next to each. Easy to open the safe, swap out one for another, appropriate holster, good to go.

Cuts down on "handling"....loading, unloading, chambering, clearing, chamber checking...

The gun in my bedside table (XD-45) is loaded, but the longguns in my safe are not.

I have several loaded magazines in the safe, and can make ready any of the guns in there in a matter of seconds (the Browning M1919 is a bit clumsier, and might take about 30 seconds to bring to bear, mostly getting the linked ammo out of the can on the floor and somehow charging a 30lb gun while holding it).

Why are the longguns not loaded? Simple: risk of fire. If there was a fire in my apartment, unlikely though it may be, the rounds very well could cook off in the chamber, causing the guns to fire and chamber another round, which would then cook off again. I feel that this would be somewhat unfair for the firemen who would be trying to extinguish my apartment. :D

While the chance of fire is minimal, it's still a precaution that I take. I certainly don't feel like I'm any more vulnerable because of it. I have 14 rounds of .45 ACP 230gr Gold Dots to get me from my bed/desk into the closet where the safe is so I can access the longguns. Either the problem will be resolved with the pistol (i.e. a home invasion robbery), or the problem will allow me enough time to get to the longguns (some sort of major event). Either way, I think that I'm covered.

Yes, all handguns in working order are loaded while secured.

My mossberg is loaded while secured.

All my rifles have loaded mags and empty pipes. Even my 10-22. [edit] Correction, my blued 1927 thompson isnt kept with a magazine in it. Considering that I have to move my parkerized thompson and my 10-22 to get to it, I dont see the point. Besides, my other 20 round magazine is missing (the other one is in the parkerized tommygun).[/edit]

With all of them, I still drop the mag and check the chamber when one comes out of the safe.

Home defense guns are hardly in the safe.

My safe is in the bedroom closet 3 feet from my bed, so is almost a "nightstand". I live alone and therefore like Nitesite I keep the safe open when home and locked when away. In my safe I keep my Taurus .357, my CZ 97B, My carry pistol, and a Mossberg 12 ga. loaded. My ARs are unloaded but with full mags at hand. Generally all the others are unloaded.
