Do you think ruger will make a 9mm version of their 1911? If they do will it be close in price to their 45 acp models I know for one I'd love one in the cmd size

DANG I hope not !!!
IF they'd decide to make a 1911 STYLE in 9MMPARABELLUM I would hope they'd make a scaled-down-to-cartridge-size pistol. The Full size 1911 9MM pistols on the maketplace are all KLUNKS in the hand and as handy as carrying your sack lunch to work in a bushel basket.
And so it goes...

That's one opinion. I've found that full size 9mm 1911s are great fun to shoot, very accurate and smoking fast. I think that if Ruger were to add the 9mm to their line up they'd easily sell every one of them. They have a history of being pretty flexible that way and considering that they recently came out with the LCR9mm, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see them do the same with their 1911s. Heck, just look at the success Springfield is having with their 9mm 1911 Range Officer, if that's any indication of the market, it should be a no brainer for Ruger.

I hope not because then I'll have to buy one. I've got four 1911s in 45 ACP so I don't need another, I only have one in 9mm, and one in .38 Super. My Spartan 1911 in 9mm is a fun gun to shoot and handles excellently. My Spartan in 1911 in .45 ACP needed a trip to the repair guys to run right (will still never trust it, even after being flawless for five hundred rounds).

I got to handle a Ruger 1911 at the range and was impressed how good it felt in the hands, not as good as my S&W E Series but still damned good. The E Series has been my personal favorite for .45 ACP and is the reason I got into reloading .45 ACP, I shoot it as good as I shoot my Sig 228 in 9mm.

So if Ruger makes one and I can get it under $650, I may have to get one late next year. I thought about getting one in 9mm for a Taurus 1911 but haven't been able to summon the excitement (I'd rather get one from Rock Island if I had to get it and I have too many guns to need to get it).

My STI Trojan 9mm 1911 and I agree 100%. Where do I send my deposit for an SR1911 Commander Length in 9mm? My .45 SR1911 Cmdr. needs a little brother!

I bought a RIA 191 9mm Tactical a couple of months ago - my first 1911-style 9mm. Now I have three of them.....

Hope so...

Great gateway to them hopping into the .38 Super/9x23 ring.

I'd be solidly on board for one, if not two!

Anything they do that will sell I'm in favor of. Bought a bunch of their stock a while back and right now they're losing money.

I could carry a 1911 in 9mm. I could also bring my lunch in a bushel basket...but I like to eat a lot!

If Ruger has shown us anything, it's that they build firearms that the public wants. Look at all the different models of 10/22, LCR, MKIII, 22/45, LCP (pick a color), SP101, etc..

I would bet the ranch there will be a 9mm SR1911 coming very soon. I would even bet that besides a 5" and 4.25", you will see a 3" to take on Springfield's EMP.

I'd be up for a SR1911 .38 Super.
Or, maybe .357 Sig.
How about .50 GI?

I agree that they would sell tons of them simply because there are a lot of folks wanting something cheaper to shoot.

I had a Kimber Pro Carry in 9mm that was a great shooter. I tried the Stainless II in 9mm as well, very nice. I believe Springfield still makes the Loaded model in 9mm, but are quite scarce.

What we really need is a new Commander Length 1911 in 10mm!

OK, I'll be that guy....

As long as we're fantasizing about calibers and have moved through my noted .38 Super and 9x23 on to silliness like .357 Sig (just threw up in my mouth a little on that:evil:) then the more sensible idea of 10mm.

Why not:

Oops, there's a re-taste of todays breakfast again.:neener:

Gotta get this out... fingers fighting back.... must endeavor to persevere...

How 'bout .40?

Gads, it's too much! Can't unsee it now!

I have been looking at the Ruger SR1911 for a little while now. The last time a purchased pistols I bought a 9mm Shield and a a .38 LCR. Next on the list is a Sr1911 or some sort of Glock (30 or 23... yes, I know, spare me the comments). If they came out with a 9mm commander I would buy that in a heartbeat.

You'd see a 3.5" officer model before they made something comparable to the EMP. The EMP is really in a class of its own.

I was initially going to say 'yes' but, I think Ruger feels comfortable with their 9 mm offerings now, (they just added a 9mm LCR) so, I wouldn't bet on it. If they do, I expect it to be priced within $50.00 of the SR1911 price.

That's a good point. I wonder if they would see it as self-competing? I don't think it is but I could see that interpretation occurring.

horsemen, I don't pretend to know. But, I would not be surprised if that happens at some point. It seems to me that more and more manufacturers of 1911 type pistols offer a 9MM. I am one of that apparent minority that does enjoy the 9MM, and 38 Super, 1911s. I've had Colt, Kimber, Springfield, STI and Dan Wesson 9MMs. They all display light recoil even with the most energetic 9MM or 38 Super ammo. The later types with the integral ramped type barrel tend to be reliable without all the tinkering and tuning I regulary see reported on the internet. I don't know if I'd buy a Ruger in 9MM or not, but I'd like the option. I realize that many believe it is not proper and manly to admit liking a 1911 in less than .45 ACP, or perhaps 10MM. Having owned 1911 type pistols in .45 ACP since the sixties, I get it. I won the 499 shoot-off at Gunsite with a .45 ACP Colt, and carried another 40+ hours a week for years. But, they do not all "fall to hardball" no matter how much some .45 ACP proponents want to believe it, nor are all 1911s even reliable in the proper .45 ACP caliber....

The Full size 1911 9MM pistols on the marketplace are all KLUNKS in the hand

Nonsense.

They feel just like any other Government-sized 1911 and recoil less.

I don't think they will.

I'm a big fan of 9mm and I even buy 9mm revolvers for no other reason than I like 9mm revolvers.

I welcome them expanding their product line and if they ever bring back the PC9 - I will buy two of them, but I don't see Ruger chambering their 1911 in 9mm.
