Do you think ruger will make a 9mm version of their 1911?

You know, there is a link on the Ruger website to make suggestions for products. It is the "tell the CEO" link.

If there is enough interest in something, they seem to make it. Perhaps offer your suggestions/desires there and see what comes of it.

Yes but I'd rather see their LCX with a 9mm-sized cylinder with a 9mm sized frame, with a .355 barrel, which to some people is probably as uninteresting as yet another 1911 chambered for 9mm.

Ruger just came out with their SR1911 in a light-weight frame with the 4" barrel. Bet they will announce the 1st half of this year a SR1911 in 9mm.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit for Ruger to announce a new 1911 in 9mm Luger. Seems like they're all about trying to cover the markets the best they can.

But this thread has me wondering - does anybody offer a 1911 in .40 S&W? Can't say I've ever noticed before.

FWIW - I have a RIA Tactical in 9mm and love it! One of my best shooters.

There are a few .40 1911s out there - SIG and STI catalog them currently, others have in the past. Baer offers a double-stack .40 1911 with an 18-round magazine!

9mm 1911s seem to be catching on lately. I think we'll see a lot more of them over the next few years. I want one myself, but it'll be a Colt, probably the base O1992 Government Model. I might pop for an XSE but stainless 1911s don't really do it for me.

Nonsense.

They feel just like any other Government-sized 1911 and recoil less.
And that is precisely the problem, sir !!! A 9MM pistol should be a damnsite lighter and sleeker than any 1911. The 1911 is the best 45ACP of all time but WHY carry one around in a puny cartridge like the 9MM PARABELLUM ? As A MATTER OF FACT: Why CARRY any 1911 around that does not have a lightweight frame. Otherwise it is just useless klunky avoirdupois that adds nothing to the package. My fullsized lightweight 1911A1 9x23 has is the PERFECT medium bore 1911, sleek , light, really powerful with 125grJHP at 1450fps, and the ability to shoot up a pile of old weirdo previously designed cartridges from just after Moses Made corporal....like the 9MMLARGE, and all the rest of 'em.....
How about a BR-HP in comparison.
And so it goes...

I agree that they would sell tons of them simply because there are a lot of folks wanting something cheaper to shoot.
That is the only reason I bought mine. 9mm is more expensive than .45 was 10 years ago.

I dont know about selling tons of them though, there are more purists here in the 1911 crowd than anywhere else.

Well...

The 1911 is my favorite handgun to shoot. Best trigger on the planet. Near-perfect fit for my hands. Easy to shoot well. Good balance. The list goes on and on. I've carried one, an all-steel 5-inch .45, on and off for a number of years now, put a lot of rounds through it, grown rather fond of the thing.

Now the 9mm is my favorite centerfire cartridge to shoot. Light recoil, relatively inexpensive, easy to find these days, and everybody makes one. I'm up to eight 9mm guns now and no two alike. But much as I like them, none of them quite measure up to the 1911.

So why not a 9mm 1911? I don't see anything bad about combining the world's best trigger with a soft-shooting cartridge, and I see a whole lot to love. I can see how some folks might prefer the .38 Super or 9x23 for serious social occasions, but if you're not a handloader those aren't realistic options and even a lot of folks who are don't like to roll their own defensive ammo. I have occasionally thought that a Lightweight Commander in .38 Super (or 9x23, for that matter) would make a fine carry gun, and I still do, but I think the same gun in 9mm would be at least as good and maybe better given the array of factory defensive loads available and the lesser flash and blast of the 9mm.

Bring on the 9mm 1911s, I say. Make mine a steel Government Model...oh, and maybe a Lightweight Commander too, if I don't spring for a .45 Combat Commander first.

Ruger makes fine firearms. but at the end of the day- it's in the business of making money. If a 9mm 1911 is a hot seller, and can be made with little additional expense on their end, you can bet that they'll be all over it.

I certainly wouldn't mind having 3 matching 1911's from them.

I wouldn't mind seeing a .40 version, especially when they come out with an officer sized model which is inevitable, the .40 does very well from short barrels. Full sized versions would be great too, but you don't see too many .40 1911's which is a shame, they're great for gaming as most have long leades and can be loaded to 10mm OAL essentially giving you 10mm ballistics from a .40 without the rarity of 10mm so you can still shoot your favorite factory .40 ammo.

It is sort of interesting they haven't already. Right now I am sure they are getting the SR1911CMD lightweight out the door as fast as they can, and a lot of people are still buying the Night Watchman which came in 5 inch and 4.25 inch, plus people are still buying the SR1911 and SR1911CMD.

I guess I remember back to when they introduced their P89 in 9mm and about the next year came out with the P90 in .45. Then you look at the SA RO in 9mm doing well in 5 inch and 4 inch versions plus Colt introducing a couple new models in 9mm this year. I think there will be a 9mm from Ruger in their SR1911 line, but not sure when.
