i've always wanted a pre lock s&w and i bought one today at the local range. it's a 6 shot .357, with 4"bbl, stainless square butt. 686-4 serial #brr42xx. any idea when it was made? thanks, craig
p.s. this gun seems a lot higher quality than my wife's new 686+.

Sometime after August of 1994~? The book isn't definitive, but S/N's
with BRF were the last recorded with dates in the book Standard
Catalog Of Smith & Wesson, 2nd edition by Supica & Nahas.

ala dan... thanks. i was just curious. put 50 rnds through it a little while ago. very accurate (more than me), nice trigger too. i don't like the wood grips, but i'm probably gonna leave'em on because it looks coool.
