As any Trailside owner knows, mounting a red dot tube or a scope on one of these guns means it has to come off for a thorough cleaning. I have been intrigued by using a Docter or Jpoint red dot since this would eliminate this problem. Unfortunately, neither makes a mount for the Trailside.

Talked to the gunsmith at Docter today and he said he would make one for ~ $75 - $100. Stupidly I didn't ask if this was in addition to the purchase of an existing mount. I assume it is but may be wrong. If it doesn't and the standard mounts go for ~$45 then it doesn't seem like a bad deal, even with shipping and insurance for the slide.

Of course if there was enough interest then they may consider adding one to their line.

I'm familiar with the Docter, but have never owned one. I do have 2 JPoints and an old Optima. I have lots of dots and scopes, but the JPoint is by far my favorite. They're light, small and stand up to recoil. The best feature, however, is the removable hood, which turns the dot on and off. No switches. Batteries last a long long time. Get the smaller moa. I think mine are 3.5 or 4 moa, which are really good for target, varmints or fine work. Get the bigger dots for quicker shots not requiring tackdriving.

Wow, I was actually looking around for this exact thing today, took the Trailside out to the range last night.

B27 posted some pics of his Trailsides in a .22 gallery thread of a cantilevered scope mount that works with the UltraDot and probably many other optics. Unfortunately this mount isn't being produced anymore.
Dot Sight .22 Thread

I called Larry's guns today looking for the cantilever mount and was informed that they are working on a new mount. It integrates with the LOWER dovetail where the barrel weight goes on the 6" models. The new mount would get the scope closer to bore level, and detach easily without losing zero. Larry said they would be available in a month or so and cost would be in excess of $100.

Check out Larry's guns , he is THE source for Hammerli parts and accessories in the US.

BTW - does anyone else have a problem with the trigger reset on the trailside? Mine used to reset well, now I have to come completely off the trigger. Ideas?
