Docter Sight Any Good?

What is your experience with mounting these on handguns? It's hard to believe that it's durable, esp. on semi-autos.

I'm curious if it would be faster for target acquisition than iron sights.

I think the Docter sight is real good but haven't had it too long..
About 200 rounds through a CZ75 with it sitting on the slide and no problems..I also have a couple of Tasco Optima sights,similar but different,on 22lr and 38super and 9mm in 1911 type guns..
I like this type of red dot better than the tube type.. My old eyes need a dot sight and these are the best I have found..
As for durability the Docter should be tops as it is made of metal and glass,the Optima was all plastic ..
It is expensive but you get what you pay for...

I've got a friend who has them on a couple of 1911s and one on a Thompson. He's real happy with them. He started with the Tasco lookalike but was dissatisfied with the plastic lens in the unit and got the Doktor unit and hasn't looked back.

They're more durable than they look because they don't weigh very much at all, so there isn't much inertia to tear them up. The only problems I've heard of were wires breaking after MANY rounds, but now they use a ribbon cable, so that won't be a problem with the latest units. Lots of people use them for IPSC Open guns, and they're discussed frequently at Brian Enos' Forum.

I have two of them. A 3.5MOA on my USP Expert and a 7MOA on a 1911. Like both of them a lot.

Only complaint is finding batteries for them (not like I've worn out a battery, but eventually I will). They use the standard CR232 (calculator) battery, but it must be made of a magnetic material (magnet holds the battery into the case).

This is not a product to use on a defense gun: DoctorSights have an energy saving mode that turns the dot off when the sight is covered or placed in a safe (or when used at night).

The paperwork that came with my Docter sight said that even in total darkness the dot will be visible..I haven't tried it yet but I shoot in a dark indoor range and compared the Docter with an
Optima and it was like night and day..The Docter was bright..

Just tried the dark test with my two.

3.5MOA sight, a first generation unit, dot went out in a dark room.

7MOA sight, a second generation unit glowed dimly (not as bright as the Trijicon front sight bulb).
