I own six Model 70's, two Pre-Wars and four Pre- 64's. The F.N. produced rifle doesn't look bad at all but I don't know anyone that owns one. To answer your question, I know no one that hates 'em.
I had one of the new stainless FM M70s. I traded it for a Ruger Hawkeye. Very similar actions, but the Winchester safety was really hard to operate and the bolt seemed a bit soft. Probably not an issue for a hunting gun, but I like to shoot. My 1999 Ruger has thousands of rounds through it. I just recently replaced the firing pin spring and the bolt lock pin sheared off last year otherwise it's in great shape.
When you say the bolt on your M70 seemed a bit soft, I assume you mean the material out great treat seemed sub par? What made you think that the bolt was softer than it should be on your rifle?
