Guys,

I have a Winchester 70 Stainless Classic Camo rifle in .270 WSM.

I've had this gun for several years now. It has the old Mauser style controlled feed.

Real good gun but I dislike the polymer camouflage stock.

Now do the other newer Winchester 70 rifles use the same stock?

I am looking for a laminated one if possible.

Thanks!

What you need to look for, is a new stock, for a short-action, standard barrel contour (not Featherweight) for one-piece bottom metal. Check out Fleabay, CDNN, etc.

I think Boyd's sells a laminated stock for a short action Winchester with one piece bottom metal. But a B&C Medalist would look way cooler! The Medalist is the stock that B&C makes for Winchester's Extreme Weather, but you can order it in a few different colors than plain black.

I have the same rifle in 300WSM. I bought it cheap because someone had ruined the cheap plastic stock. I bought one of these from CDNN for $50.

It is a newer version of Winchesters budget synthetic and is far better than the older stock you have. Is black instead of camo and has a sticky texture to it making it easy to hold. Much lighter than the older stock and with one of the new hi-tech recoil pads that really softens the magnum recoil. It now recoils LESS than my 30-06 and much closer to my 308's The pads sell for $30-$40, so getting the stock for $50 is a deal.

It is made for the newer rifles with 1 piece bottom metal, but mine came with an adapter which makes it fit the older guns.

I have McMIllans' on all of my other rifles and had planned on ordering one for this rifle. But with a 4 month wait I ordered this planning on it being a temporary fix. It shoots so well I've decided to just use it as is.

The B&C stock is an option, but is also designed for newer guns. You'll either have to buy an adaper or make one. I have done it both ways. FWIW, I prefer the Ultimate shadow stock to the B&C. I own an EW that came with the B&C stock and couldn't get it off soon enough.

Thanks guys.

Now here is the way I look at things...

I have S&W revolvers, all with wood stocks cause I feel they deserve wood and steel. If I want a polymer stock I'll get a polymer gun (Glock actually.)

Well same with rifles. I want wood. If I want polymer I'll get a AR (which I have to.)

So, it looks like stockysstocks.com or boydsgunstocks.com or accurateinnovations.com

This might do..

I might be the only one to recommend this but I would find a Featherweight stock. A stainless rifle with a nice schnabel fore-end walnut stock would be very classy.

I like laminate stocks for all their advantages, but walnut is so much classier.

Deaf Smith;

First thing I'd do is determine just exactly who made it. In other words is it a USRAC, post-USRAC, or FN gun? Then I'd haunt the local gunsmiths & gunshops to see if a take-off wood could be picked up for a small amount. I happen to agree that I think a factory walnut stock looks better than almost any laminate. I've seen a stainless M70 with the schnable tip walnut stock & it does indeed make for a very nice looking firearm.

The OP has identified this rifle as a "Classic". Since it is a "Classic", that automatically identifies it as a New Haven rifle. The FN manufactured rifles do not use the "Classic" nomenclature.
