I am trying to find out the possible value of my father's Weatherby Rifle. It is any early one built on a FN Mauser action and it is marked Weatherby South Gate, California. It is in .300 Weatherby Magnum and has a chrome lined bore. It has a Jaeger trigger. The bolt and mag follower are jeweled and the floor plate is engraved. The stock is the classic Weatherby style, it's a maroon or burgundy color with black fore end tip and black grip cap. I read somewhere that early Weatherby's were stocked with mesquite or walnut. I'm not sure about that, but it has a different grain than what I am used to seeing. He is the second owner of the gun, he bought it in the 70's at a local sporting goods store. The store has been gone for years. The serial number is well below 3000. I saw another early Weatherby which had a serial number in the mid 3000's on Cabela's Gun Library that said in was made in the early 1950's. If anyone has some info to help me, it is greatly appreciated. If anyone needs more info on it, let me know. I will try to get some photos attached, soon. I would say that the gun is easily in 90%+ condition. Thanks for the help.
