I just won a Weatherby Vanguard in .308 magnum. Well, actually I won it about 2 weeks ago and it was delivered today. It's matte black with a tan stock and it has a rail on it for scope mouting. Now, I know little about rifles, save for my S&W MP15. So, what's the deal on this Weatherby? Good quality? Accurate? Worth keeping or better for selling? Help me out folks I'm looking for info other than what I can read on the website.

That particular Vanguard is a pretty good one...I think you'll enjoy it!

Are you positive about the caliber...look again....308 'MAGNUM'!?! How bout 308 Winchester?

I know guys, but I shouldn't think it to be a custom....dare I say it....308 Norma Mag!

No good AT ALL. Especially in .308 magnum. Tell you what I am going to do. Today only, because you seem like a nice guy, I am willing to take that lump off your hands for, say, $150 smackers. PM if you are interested---

Seriously--great rifle, in .308 win, a great cartrige. I would add a quality Nikon or Leupold 3X9 & enjoy it. (and even the lowest end scope from either manufacturer is excellent)

If it says "308 Magnum" it could be a 308 Norma Magnum. An unusual caliber to be sure. Yes, do read the caliber marking carefully.

The Weatherby Vanguard should be a good rifle. Nothing wrong with keeping it. To get an idea how much folks are selling similar rifles for, do a search on http:/www.ebang.com

My bad, misread the letter that came with the rifle it is a .308 win. I've never had a rifle this capable of long range shooting before. I think some serious practice time is in order before it gets too cold up here in the soon to be frozen north.

Does it say "Sub-MOA" on the magazine baseplate? Is the tan stock one of the fiberglass ones with the black spiderwebbing? Does the stock have a wide forearm with ventilation holes?

Regardless, it's a good rifle. Whether you should keep it depends upon whether you have any use for it. I would probably keep it myself.

It is the Sub MOA model, but the one I received has a rail mounted to te receiver whereas the picture of the Sub MOA on the website does not show a rail.

Being new here...

I didnt want to be the first to say, or imply, that this thread is worthless with out pictures. :)

If its the sub-MOA version, I'd keep it, unless you just have absolutely no interested in rifle shooting. It sounds like some tacticool version of the sub-MOA. Should be pretty dern accurate, I'd think!

this guy is makin up stories about winning a gun to get us all wound up.... i going to say it "without pics and where and how you won it (so we can all try and get a free gun)" ......... it didn't happen

Congratulations Borch-If somebody gave me a Weatherby I'd probably have to keep it. Please post a pic-you've got my curiousity up.

I can think of no Weatherby's , that are not keepers, that are not accurate, and that do not eventually go up in value. If yours is a sub moa model, with a top rail allready on it, I would find out from Weatherby themselves, more about this model. If it came from the factory, or Weatherby custom shop like this, then there is no WWWHHHHayyy I would be selling it; It is proly accurate as all getout, and if it has a heavy bbl, then it will proly be an excellent long range
shooter. I say good get, and ' chef recommends...'

You asked about accuracy. That will be easy to find out. Just pull out the target that came in the box and see how accurate it is.
Standard Weatherby's are at the very least 1 1/2" MOA
Sub MOAs are exactly that
