Or close to that weight?

I want a bullet that will reload even easier than the rounded flat nose bullets I have. (and running low on) I want a bullet shaped like the 246 gr round nose, just not that heavy.

My guns are a Taurus 431 4 in. regulated for 200 gr bullets and an incoming Charter Bulldog. (2.5 in) Both prefer lighter bullets.

They will be loaded moderately in .44 Russian cases. (no more than 750 fps)

I don't suppose you cast? I'm sure there are moulds available.

I have 2 of the Taurus 431 revolvers. I absolutely love them both, and have to actively resist purchase offers whenever someone shoots one of them.

Mine also like the 200 gr. Lee RNFP, and 750 - 800 fps is certainly a sweet spot. Easy shooting and accurate.

Thanks!

I should wait until the Charter comes in, measure the throats and such, and see what the sights are regulated for before I buy more bullets.

I'm pretty sure the Bulldog will be okay with 200 gr. I've read of guys having problems with bullet pull using heavier bullets in the light Charter but lots of guys use more powder than I intend to.

I'm fine with a 200 gr bullet at 750 fps or just under. If I need to use 240-250 gr I'd be loading them to about 650-700.

That's a good idea to do that.
Matt's and MBC's Cowboy series bullets are both .430". They are the only ones I know of that make softer bullets for sale. MBC's Cowboy series is 12 BRN and the Matt's bullets I bought had to be around 12 or less, really soft. Keith SWC's 172 gr for 357 Mag. I couldn't believe how soft they were but they work great.

I picked up a few 165 SWC’s that were just the thing for the Bulldog. Replicated the Critical Defense load and made recoil very manageable. I load RimRocks 200 RNFP for my range loads. From their Cowboy line, not swagged soft but not super hard cast either. Good shooters in my other .44’s.

Bullet companies used to give us a choice of dia we wanted to use with a particular bullet caliber. I haven't seen those listings for quite a while now.
Sign of the times I guess.

Buffalo Arms company and Missouri Bullets is what I have used in the past.

My Charter came in.

Seemed okay upon initial inspection though barrel slightly canted. Worked the action but didn't dry fire because I forgot the fired cases I meant to bring. I took it home.

4 of the 5 (iirc) screws were loose. (1 about finger tight the others just loose) I cleaned with alcohol and reinstalled snug w/Loctite blue.

When I inspected the action at home it started to not feel right. Like there was a drag or burr. So I did a little dry firing with fired cases and it locked up. Freed it by pulling on the ejector rod but it would quickly lock up again. Does with the cylinder open, too, so it's in the action.

I tried to take measurements but the caliper battery was dead. I tried another battery but it was also dead.

The gun is already on it's way back to Charter.

Got a pack of batteries for my calipers so at least that works now. Total failure :(

Before it comes back I'm going make some mild loads for it. .430 dia. 200 gr LFN w/3.9 gr of Titegroup in .44 Russian cases.

Sorry to hear about your Bulldog. I've never owned a Charter or a Taurus, they just don't sell well around here so I don't think I've even seen one.

Are you using 44 Russian cases for ejection purposes?

Yea, and it's more efficient with light loads. And I already have them and dies.

I'm never going to load this gun or my Taurus 431 .44 Spl. with anything close to "hot" so the longer Spl case just isn't necessary. And I get to enjoy easier loading, ejection, and being able to peer into the case at my powder charge more easily.

200 gr bullets & under are best for these guns and I doubt I'll ever want to load them over 850 fps. I can do that with the Russian cases.

I'm surprised your Charter Arms Bulldog is flawed. Ever since the original owners came back to Charter the QC was supposed to be top notch again. (I think it's the Ecker family) I hope it works out. Nothing worse that a flawed new toy.

Well, they at least cut corners when it comes to QC. No excuse for multiple screws that aren't even finger tight and a barrel that is obviously canted looking down the sights, from above, or under the barrel.

I found multiple, recent reports of this locking up issue, too. Could be as simple as one part made out of spec for a few weeks that got put in thousands of guns that went out the door.

I dunno, but we'll see if Charter fixes it.

A day or two after sending in my Bulldog I recieved a text and Ticket number.

30 days later and I've yet to get anything else. I sent them a text (could be to an automated system though) and will call / email them this week.

Sorry about your Charter. Bear Creek Supply offers swaged 205, 235 and 240gr. 44s. Can't get much softer. For club competition, I used to shoot Speer swaged 240gr in Special cases over 4.5 grains of Bullseye. Almost recoilless.

About 5 years ago I bought a Charter Arms 9mm Pitbull. I had a question about it and called the factory. No one to talk to at the time so I had to leave a message. About an hour later I get a call from the company president. I was impressed! I still have the Pitbull as well as a Bulldog which is a 45LC. Nice guns!

The Brazos 165 gr TCFP bullets work amazingly well in my GP 100 and 5.5” Blackhawk. (I haven’t fired it in my 624 yet.) i load them over Bullseye, IMR Target (Discontinued) and Unique to about 825 fps.

Low recoil, they should work very well for your uses, too.

Stay safe.

Charter said repairs can take a few weeks to two months.

They told me to check back if I dont get a text or email in the next two weeks.

Hopefully then I can play the game of trying to be home when someone tries to deliver it.
