CMP Experience
Over the past several years I have purchased 2 Garands, 2 H&R .22 targets and a Mossberg M44 .22 from the CMP. Each has met or exceeded my expectations. The Garands reminded me of those I abused and fired at ROTC summer Camp. If you remember what you used the rifle for in basic training you know what to expect. I remember on several occasions seeing M1s stacked like cordwood in the backs of duece and a half's and being issued that way and being turned in that way. Lot of dings and scrapes, but maybe not much real effect on function. Also consider how many times they were disassembled and reassembled for drill and training. When my unit received M16's to replace M14s, the M14s were transported the same way. By luck of the draw I received a CMP Springfield Armory M1 manufactured December, 1943 (I was born 12/21/1943)!!
My first CMP H&R .22 looked brand new. The second had been used very little. The Mossberg trigger guard crumbled as expected. The only disappointment I had was discovering that the sights for the H&Rs were sold separately later at about what I paid for the guns!!
