I just picked up a 1969 4" Python in nickle. I was so excited I didn't even notice the plating had worn off on the right side. It's gone about a quarter inch wide on the barrel, and cylinder. I guess it was a working LEO's gun. So while it is going to be a shooter, if i replate it,would I get my cost of replating back when I sell it? As it is, it's only going to be worth what I paid for it today. Also, does a collector want the "soul" it has now or want to see the bling?

If it is replated it will be worth less than the current condition. You could probably send it in to Colt and have it done and few people would be any the wiser BUT the cost of the service would far outweigh the benefit.

Shoot her and enjoy her.

As a rule you will not get back your refinish costs... but that, of course, depends what you paid for the gun originally.
Plating is not cheap and a refinished gun is... well, not "original finish" and a savy buyer will take that into consideration.
So if you deducted $200 because the finish is bad and spend $200 to get it replated - a buyer might deduct $200 because it is "not original finish" - you're out $200.

I have had several guns refinished. But, always for my own reasons. There is no way that money is coming back on sale.

Depends. I doubt you'll get your money back, but a good replating/refinishing job might add to the value for certain buyers.
