I am new to revolvers and have a 627 performance center and just today I picked up a brand new 686 half lug 5" barrel "stocking dealer special" - this model has the adjustable V notch rear sight with the high vis front.

I noticed after I got it home the rear sight insert was cranked as far right as it could possibly go.

Does this mean anything? Do they sight them in perfectly from a rest at the factory? My 627 is slightly right, but not all the way over like this. Help I feel like Monk from the TV show because my sight isn't perfectly centered in the middle! :D

Based on my experience, no, but I 've only had one that was really bad.

When I got my Smith 586 a lifetime ago, I noticed the front sight was off center when I brought it home. When i got a screwdriver out, my dad told me to wait until I shot it before I did anything. He was right. One click left, and it was dead on for me.

Lucky or pre-sighted, I don't know. But it sure saved me a lot of sighting-in ammo.

They do a better job than ruger does, they got all of mine in the ballpark.
The rugers I bought new didn't even print on the paper.
