I had the chance to shoot a Kimber Custom a while back, and I couldn't believe just how accurate it was. The downside is I still dislike the trigger.

I'm used to revolver shooting, and the non-straight-pull-from-center trigger, for lack of a better description. Most of my pistols are the same way--pivot at the top, even if ever so slightly.

So, does anyone make a pistol with the balance and characteristics of a 1911 without a 1911 trigger?

Thanks.

Agreed, the Para-Ordnance LDA is the only one I can think of that has the appearance, dimensions and balance of the 1911, excluding oddities like the Seecamp DA conversion or the Colt Double Eagle. The SIG P220 SAO is a cocked and locked single action .45, but that is about the only similarity to a 1911. Its trigger does pivot, though. ;)

Absolutely--innumerable Stars and Ballester Molinas. Apart from closely resembling a 1911, I'm not sure if most of these match the other "characteristics" of a 1911. They're good guns but were designed as service pieces and probably won't come close to the accuracy of a Kimber.

A great deal of the "shootability" of the 1911 is the straight back trigger pull.
Once you get used to it, you'll be spoiled on other trigger systems.

Not exactly, but for the "revolver-like" trigger, have you considered S&W 4506, 4566, or 4516 (and variants)? Not a 1911, but a solid .45 with a trigger feel more like what you're used to in S&W wheelguns. I believe S&W did this on purpose to appeal to PD's used to wheelguns. I have owned several, and they have all been absolutely reliable and solid performers. Granted the mechanism is not as drop dead simple as a 1911, but they grow on you. Other options might be SiG 220, Baby Desert Eagle, or the Paras. I think shooter 1 is right about shootability of 1911 trigger; I've tried everything else, am really happy with the Smith, but there are more 1911's in the stash for this reason.
Cheers, TF
