Does trading a Springfield GI 1911 fro a Glock 21SF seem to be a fair even trade

I have a Springfield GI model 1911 that I bought about 8 years ago that I have never fired. It's a new one and not some WWII era firearm. Lately I've been harmonizing my defensive firearms to Glocks. I'm thinking of trading this 1911 evenly for a Glock 21SF. I think it is likely a fair and even trade for both parties involved but just wanted to,do a reality check. What do you think?

I have no emotional attachment to this 1911. Its nice and all but so would be having a full sized Glock.

I think value wise the 1911 might be worth more, but if the 21sf is what you know you want, by all means do it.

I had the SF for a while. The grip angle just didn't work for me, but it was darn reliable. I also put about 1000 lead reloads through it with no issue, despite what people try to tell you.

Now a question, living in CA are you restricted to 10 rounds?

I would ask for $100 on their end or a even trade if the 21sf had nights sights and was in excellent condition like your 1911 , with everything from the factory included .

I shot my coworkers brand new 21sf and I was surprised at how good it shot . I was more accurate with it than I was with my 1911 , almost a one hole group at 15 yards , with a full magazine .

I think your unfired SA 1911 is worth a little bit more than a Glock 21SF but if it's what you want and your comfortable with doing this trade, then you should do it.

Value is subjective. Your gun is new...that Glock may not. But, if the trade makes you happy, who cares?

Personally, I think you should get a Glock 21 Gen4. I find it to be vastly superior to the previous versions. Also consider the Glock 30 Gen 4...my brain has not been tempted toward another 45 since getting it! That is sayin' something because I used to always looking for the next, "bestest" gun.

I also happen to think everyone should have a 1911. But, that's just me (and I don't even like 1911's). The reason is that you may be teaching someone to shoot and the Glocks are too big for them. Never fear..break out your 1911 with narrow grip panels and short trigger and you are likely good to go. Pop on a 22 conversion kit if they are afraid of recoil, get them used to it and then move back to 45 ACP.

I like and own 1911's, never liked the tiny sights on that GI model, and I prize my own Gen4 21. I would trade that GI model for the G-21SF in a heartbeat, you might be about $100 light on the Glock side of the trade, so if you could get 4 boxes of factory range ammo with the Glock, you'd be in good shape.

no, it doesn't make sense
Keep the 1911..........and shoot it for :cuss: sake.

I like your idea of consolidating your pistols to one platform, I did the same thing a couple years ago. The G21 is a great .45, and personally I'd take one over a stock 1911 any day of the week and twice on Sunday. That said, what condition is the G21 in? Does it come with night sights or any extras? It might be that you could sell your Springfield and buy a Gen 4, or even just wait for a Gen 4 trade to come along.

OK I gotta ask.
How is it that you have a 1911 for eight years and have not shot it?
My Sig 220 has 12,000 rounds through it (bought it around the same time I got the 1911) Also, I had another nice 1911 (Les Baer Thunder Ranch) that I used to shoot and enjoyed. The nicer 1911 was sold and I bought two Glock 30SFs with the proceeds. Please don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the 1911 platform. I'm just trying to consolidate for combat pistols. From what I'm hearing, if anything, the trade is good to those on the receiving end. Thanks for feedback.

They are just to darn big for being limited to only 10rds.
I wouldnt do it and I own multiple Glocks and 1911's.

I started out with 1911 and also became a fan of Glocks for match shooting due to greater reliability even when pistols became dirty.

If it was me, I would keep the 1911 and find a way to fund the Glock 21SF purchase, especially if it is used. If used, I would also recommend you test fire the Glock to verify reliable function and accuracy. Since you never shot the 1911, you won't be able to compare the shot group size/accuracy.

I do not know if you reload, but I could not get my G21/G30 to reliably feed 200 gr SWC reloads but various 1911s (SA/Sig/Kimbers/RIA etc.) will feed them without issues.

I did the same and went all Glocks only to buy back pistol types I sold. Looking back, I wish I never sold my pistols in the first place.

As the new Springfield is valued at about a Glock and a quarter, possibly more depending on where you live. (The new Springfield Mil-Spec is worth from $150.-250. more than the new G21). A straight trade is a loss to you. It is also a loss if the guns are used depending on condition of course. A straight trade plus 3-5 extra mags for the 21 might do, or an extra $100-200. might be in order.

What I'm thinking I will do,is ask for 2 or 3 extra Glock magazines in the trade or mention I have a preference for XS big dot sights in case someone has these.
