My Ruger #1V in .223 is a finicky little vixen. Only happy with a very specific load (and I tried lots of combinations) which is a max load of H335 atop a 50 gr. Vmax, using Winchester brass neck sized in a Lee Collet die. This combination regularly gives .75" 5-shot groups @ 100 yds. But it has been really hard to find that combo lately, so I have had to expand my horizons. A few years back I got a box of Midway 50 gr. HP Dogtown bullets that sat on a shelf.

So, with my stock of Vmax bullets rapidly diminishing,I decided to give them a whirl, with the attached target resulting. Now they are out of stock with no back order. :(

I think they may be more accurate than the Vmax.

I use the 55gn dogtown in my rem 700 .223 with a max load of H-335 they are one of the most accurate bullets I have. I am not sure who makes them for midway but I love them.

Midway has 50 V-Max in both 100 and 250 in stock right now. When I find a recipe that works, I buy an bunch of those components. Usually around a barrel life's worth (2-3000). When you are out, you need a new barrel, and you will need a new load anyway.

In pretty sure they are Noslers. I had very good luck with them as well, in the 55gr version.

I recently loading up 900 DT 55gr bullets purchased from Midway when they were on sale. (the first 100 were used for working up loads in 335 and IMR 4895 and shooting 2L bottles full of water. Boom - Splat! :) They are a really a good value IMHO and they shoot very well. Very explosive as well. My metal plate in AR400 does not like these at all and out of compassion, I will not shoot it again with these bullets :)

Using Nosler's online data for this bullet, I ended up at 24.5gr of IMR 4895. One thing I noticed about Nosler's data for this bullet, is that they suggest 2.260 for the OAL. I used 2.250 and got very good accuracy (for my shooting). Most other load data for a bullet of this profile seem to suggest a shorter OAL.

I found my gun preferred the longer length.

YMMV, but they worked very well for me and were a good value.
