This evening I went out to a favorite spot needing to take out some feral hogs or coyotes. I love to do this, I also take me some cold beer which I love and I will hear the usual BS about alcohol and guns, I am 55, been to war and have been hunting by myself since I was 7. I sit back enjoy my beer, if I see a hog or coyote, I will let the air out of them. I dont get snockered drunk and I double and triple check my guns. it is so peaceful to hear the coyotes crank up at dusk, to look at a far pasture and see hogs, deer and wildlife in general. I pity those that only know concrete, asphalt and neighbors everywhere. I will hear from those that disagree with this, but I guess they are so unsecure with firearms that usually these are the guys that accidentally shoot themselves. I know I am confident, a good shot, a good hunter and rifleman and enjoy every minute of my life outdoors.:::cool:

krochus, I am all against beer and firearms, but I do enjoy beer and barbeque. I don't live it, breathe it, can't live without it like oxygen, but I do enjoy it. No dependancy issues.

Basic Physiology: A 150-pound person of average metabolism burns off one ounce of alcohol per hour. A 6% beer (12-ounce can) has 0.72 ounces of alcohol. 4.6% is more common than 6%, FWIW.

Slow sipping and somewhere around a beer an hour cannot impair a person, absent some unusual allergenic reaction.

Aint everyone got the attitude of a Texan, part of a deer lease with good buddies is cold beer or get off the lease and hunt with like minded hunters. common sense should prevail in a grown man, like I said enjoy the life and wildlife around you, that dont mean you have to chamber a round and kill a case of beer. any of yall that served in southeast asia will remember what most of us did before going out in the field. that wasnt Marlboros being passed around and that San Miguel at 95 degrees would kick your butt, but it was part of facing the day. now I enjoy life, I am lucky enough to hunt thousands of acres, enjoy the sunrise, the sunset and life, who knows how much longer we can enjoy that, I did not mean to be an irresponsible hunter or to say that everyone should do it, but as for myself a cold beer, a chance to take a hog or coyote or deer is an opportunity 99% of people will never have. I dont go by writers "tactics and other BS," I dont need someone to tell me how to hunt, I have proven myself and aint out to impress anyone. one of the best deer I have ever taken (21"spread) was taken after sitting in a smoky bar in Gonzales Texas, I was not drunk, only drank one beer and sat in a tripod, I was wearing blue denim jeans and shirt, I dont smoke but I am sure I smelled like a smoky bar. like I said, dont believe the writers, same reason I dont wear expensive camo to sit in a box blind (why, cause every other lemming does) as far as I know deer cant see thru plywood. but, then again there are always "hunters" that go with the flow. just enjoy hunting, the outdoors and life but do it your own way. dont follow like a puppy dog.

stats and figures when it comes to beer dont apply to Texans, especially Bohemians, Poles or German American/Texans. we are a different breed. yall aint ever noticed the KC halls next to most Catholic Churches??

you know what man sounds like you are being reasonably safe and enjoying yourself more power to yah

while i agree that alcohol and guns dont mix well i really dont see a problem with drinking one or two beers on a 2-3 hour hunt the issue is only when its 3-4 drinks for an hour or 2 hunt

have fun, be safe, and give it a little time before you drive just to besure

edit haha gotta admit us poles and them germans can put a bit away and be fine i guess it has something to do with inventing a major form of alcohol POles have vodka and the Germans beer

I pity those that only know concrete, asphalt and neighbors everywhere.
Amen brother.

Also, it's none of my damn business how you spend your time, and I won't step on your toes for telling us about it.

Hey, the Spoetzl family were cousin to my Fertsch ancestors. :D Stairtown is named after some relatives, as well.

Years ago I hung out on Sattiddy nites at Crider's, a little rodeo and beer-joint/dance floor place above Kerrvillle on the Guadalupe River. Lots of summer camp counselors came there, as well as German gals from Fredericksburg (aka "Fritztown").

Camp counselor guys, being all suave and debonair (or swayve and deboner), would hit on these German gals, buying them a bunch of beer. Ignorance in action. By around 10 or 11 PM, the guy would be knee-walking, mumbling snockered. The gal would be out on the dance floor, still having a ball with the Schottische, Herr Schmidt or Polka. Heck, she'd grown up on beer at the dinner table. :D

Folks from places like Pawelekville, Czestahowa and Neu Ulm generally know a wee tad about their beer.

Me, too.

A couple beers doesn't even make a grown man legally drunk. Be safe.

That depends on the size of the person. At 150 lbs (a grown man), you will be at your legal limit if you drink 2 beers in an hour, regardless of whether you feel anything or not. Don't believe me? Just go talk to a police man and have him test you.

At 150 lbs (a grown man)

I was 150 pounds my sophomore year of high school. I'm in the best shape I've been in, in 25 years, and I weigh 180 lbs - realizing how large most American's are, Id wager that most grown men in this country (especially in Texas and other mid western states) are significantly larger heavier than 150 pounds.

In fact, according to this report - what your describing isn't the average grown man, but the average grown woman.

The report, Mean Body Weight, Height, and Body Mass Index (BMI) 1960-2002: United States, shows that the average height of a man aged 20-74 years increased from just over 5'8" in 1960 to 5'9½" in 2002, while the average height of a woman the same age increased from slightly over 5'3" 1960 to 5'4" in 2002.

Meanwhile, the average weight for men aged 20-74 years rose dramatically from 166.3 pounds in 1960 to 191 pounds in 2002, while the average weight for women the same age increased from 140.2 pounds in 1960 to 164.3 pounds in 2002.

Personally, I like to save my beer drinkin for after the hunt! I do like my beer though!

countertop,
I was 148 lbs until I was 24. There are a lot of us out there. Averages are easily skewed by both the super light and the super heavy. One 250 lb man will move the average up for several smaller guys. I know a lot of people who are 160 lbs. I think you might actually be technically drunk at 160 lbs with two beers in an hour as well.

Reminds me of the Quote “I’ve spent most of my money on alcohol, guns and women, the rest I just wasted.”

I'm filing this under 'live and let live' along with 'whatever floats your boat' and 'different strokes for different folks'. Cold beer and dead 'yote with a pig chaser---who'd a thunk it?

Ya, it sucks for those people who have lost connection with how the system works.

Remember, the people at whole foods might dog you for hunting, because its cruel, more cruel than their grass fed steaks that they are buying, and they'll have no real realization of how that organic cow was raised and killed, at least a deer gets to breed more.
