about "poachers" and "slob" hunters! While we are all venting let me release some steam. I work at a business that is a license outlet. It never fails, year after year, that I see the the same thing. Joe Hunter will spend $800 for a new gun,$2 a shell for the latest in sabot slugs,$5000 for a new 4-wheeler to haul around in the bed of his $30,000 4 wheel drive pickup, and $3 a gallon for gas so he can cruise the backroads to "roadhunt". Let a hunting license go up $4 and LISTEN TO HIM BITCH! Here in Ohio the license vender gets 50 cents for each license sold. When Joe Hunter uses his credit/debit card to pay .50 doesn't cover the cost(3 cents for every dollar) for us to run the card! Who do you suppose hears the complaints when license costs go up? Or even when the costs don't go up? Don't get me wrong, I am not anti hunting. I'm borderline anti HUNTER!

I can't complain. I've made two nice firearms purchases recently due to "hunters" who bought guns, went out hunting, never came even close to hitting anything, and decided the guns were at fault so sold them cheap.

(Of course neither gun was ever sighted in and one of them never had the factory grease removed and the action and the trigger were both stiff as a board because of it).

There are many hunters who don't fall under the catagory of "Joe Hunter" in my neck of the woods. They hunt to fill the freezer for their families. The price of licenses has been going up rather steadily here in Wyoming. And gas prices, ammo prices aren't helping the situation. As to the "Joe Hunter types", I agree, they're a good source of cheap gear, if you're in the right place at the right time.

I don't think you will find many of the hunters you describe here. Sounds like you might be preaching to the choir. I think you will find that most of us tend to distance ourselves from those types of people. If your ever down around Mississippi during one of our extra long hunting seasons look me up and me and the boys will show you a better side of hunters.

See, that's not the way price hikes happened in Michigan. The DNR tried to "up" the prices right into our posteriors, by a requested range hike between 50% to 100%!?!?

Why?

Because they could. Now, if they wanted to increase prices 20% based on a founded and grounded reason (meaning reasonable) I have no problem. But, for them to request a 50% to 100% increase?! Oh Hades no! You should document the comments and reactions of these people and report them to our DNR.

i'm okay with license and fee increases, AS LONG AS THEY DON'T GO INTO THE STATE'S GENERAL FUND and the PROCEEDS ARE USED FOR BONDA FIDE CONSERVATION PURPOSES.
