And CDNN has two that are tempting but I have no idea about them. Please educate me about the differences, pros/cons of the Smith & Wesson 3000 and Remington 870. Thanks!

The 870 is the standard to which all present day pumps are compared to. The 3000 failed to work for long when used under police and prison conditions. When clean and maintained, it seemed to be a decent shotgun.

All else equal, get the 870. A few thousand posts in the Archives can tell you why....

No wonder I didn't find much in the search for the S&W 3000, seems like everyone has an 870 so I was hoping to be different. :D

The catalog said they only had a few with full synthetic stocks, if I have to get one with a pistol grip, it will be an excuse to get the attachment that allows the collapsible AR stock to be added.

But I can hear my wife whining now... she wanted the nickel finished Marine Magnum version of the 870. :neener:

Thanks!

870 is the way to go even for a lefty which i am.. didnt take me long to learn to manuaplate the safty .

I have read of all the remingtons with the j-lock i think they call it havign problems but it can be replaced with a brownells big head safty and no more j-lokc to lock up on you

For $30 Gander Mountain (if there is one in your area) can convert a 870/1100 safety to left-handed. I'm sure there are other places that can do the same for roughly the same price.

I'm also left-handed but have not had my 870 switched yet. Right now its a hunting gun. When hunting turkey and deer the right handed safety is not a problem.
One of the reasons I haven't had it changed is because of familiarity. I have others with the same style safety and unfortunately, no one makes a conversion for them.
