The day has come that I lost my Go to knife :( A Kershaw AO Blackout. I've carried this knife with me for a LONG LONG LONG time every day. I don't even think it had the name blackout when my father bought it for me. Or at least I don't remember it being called that.

I always carried it on my back pocket and I think when I was sitting on a chair at a BBQ it fell out. I think.

So I decided to replace it with a Benchmade Rukus. I hope I made a good choice. The darn thing is on Backorder everywhere. This will be my first benchmade knife. I'm looking forward to it and at the same time I have a felling I'm going to miss my AO Kershaw.

I lost one knife, a Gerber AR 3.00, partially serrated black teflon coated blade. It's in a thigh deep swamp right now, it got snagged off my pocket by some brush. I miss that knife, a lot.

I just handled the Mini Rukus about an hour ago. I was pretty impressed , have to get one to keep the full size one ( and the customs ) company.

Over the past 40 years I've lost a couple of knives and hated it every time. Thought I'd lost my favorite knife ever a few years ago and hated that a lot. Made me very happy to find it a year later.

Lost a Mchenry/Williams Benchmade while swimming

Despite what I thought was a really secure fit on my trunks with the pocket clip.
Note to self: Don't be a dumb a$$.

Over the years, I've lost a Benchmade Pinnacle/MonoLock that I loved. Slipped out of my pocket when walking in the woods in deep snow. Then I lost my first "true" custom knife: a little Dick Atkinson frame-lock I was fond of.

Neither of these represented a massive financial loss. But, they meant a lot to me.

I have lost at least one Kershaw Blackout myself. I am currently carrying its replacement. I have always like the Kershaws I have had especially the Blackout.

Man! Loosing a good pocket knife is like loosing a best friend.

I lost TWO Kershaw Whirlwinds. :( The first one I lost was purchased in 2001. Had it less than a year. It had fallen out of my pocket a couple times, so I took the clip off and bent it in order to provide more tension on my pocket. No such luck, it was gone. After asking around, I was left with the impression that the Kershaws had a tendency to do this (although I'm sure that it's more a combination of handle material, and finish), so I spent about 3/4 of a year trying out different brands. Only one of them came out of my pocket during that time, and that was because I was trying to take too much stuff out of my pocket at the time. Unfortunately, none of the other knives I tried apealed to me as much as the Whirlwind, so I bought another one. Had that about a year before it disappeared.

Now, I carry Spyderco's with FRN, and the only time one dropped off me was the one that is carried IWB (IWB falls out easier for me). Fortunately someone knew it was mine, and put it in my car. :)

Now, whenever I look at a knew knife, I usually check both how it feels in the pocket, and how it retains it position in the pocket.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

I lost my Browning Kodiak FDT on a hunting trip before I ever even got the chance to use it. I think it came off my belt when I was removing my sidearm/holster at the truck. Right in the open at a popular parking spot for trout fishermen next to the S. fork of the Boise river near Prarie, Id. I hope the person who found it is getting lots of good use out of it. I had to dress out my buck last year with my Remington bird knife that I've had for about a decade. Maybe whoever found it will read this and return it to me? It was a gift from my wife because I would never spend that much on a knife for myself.

Yeah, I lost a nice little Twitch II then I lost and found my Kershaw. It's not the money it's the loss. You kinda get attached to these little pocket knives for some reason.

I lost my very first decent pocket knife when I was a kid. My uncle bought me a Victorinox special edition utility knife, less tools than normal but very cool. I thought the clip was secure, but after a day of romping through the woods I look down and it was gone..... I was out there till well after dark, tramping back and forth looking for that thing. They built houses on that whole area now, so it's definitely gone!

And for knife retention, you can't beat carpenter pants I've found. I slide my Benchmade and little Gerber Fast Draw into the snug middle pocket and I've not lost one yet.

I lost a two-week old Spyderco Delica at a nightclub during a New Year's Eve party. Barely had it enough time to get any decent use out of it!

Small world, so did I. Don't know where or when the first one dissappeared. Second one got snagged on something while I was working in the backyard, noticed it was gone several hours later. Bought a replacement for it, then found it about a 2 weeks later under the tire of the (non-tactical) wheelbarrow.

I hate losing a good knife. A couple of months ago i lost my daily carry knife, the last time I could remember having it was under the hood of a buddies truck I was working on so i figured it was long gone. I was cutting grass sunday at my grandparents old house and walked to the building for something, and there it was. It was sitting open on the porch of the building where i had last used it. Its funny how you cant remember exactly how you lost it until you find it.

Some how every time somebody gives me a knife as a gift I loose it.I also lost my Spyderco Gunting and cant find another to replace it.

I20 to Atlanta early 70's - headed to New London CT - the 4x6 U-Haul's door behind my '70 Audi 100LS blew open... out with some records (Remember them?) and out of it's sheath came my Western hunting knife. I saw the records flying through the air and stopped. I never found the knife - just it's sheath - which wasn't there when we arrived in CT, although an empty sleeve for 'Hair' was there. My mother had gotten me that knife with Green Stamps.

Somewhere - in this house - there is a Victorinox 'Craftsman' Swiss Army knife. All of the Buck, Kershaw, Case, etc are still here - as is my Benchmade collection - a Gryptilian (sp?). I aint complaining - but that Swiss Army knife was 'half' my pocket collection when it 'went' - the Western was my only fixed blade when it flew away. They were traumatic losses at the time. It may be age-related dymentia, but I remember them fondly - too many of these new fangled knives now, I am afraid. Some dull ones I'd not mind misplacing, too...

I've lost plenty of pocket knives while growing up, even lost a kitchen chef knife (accidentally got thrown away inside a pizza box is my best guess.)

There's one "good" knife that I lost that I don't miss at all but which I feel bad because of where it was lost. I had commissioned a stainless neck knife from Ed Chavar to take on a NGO posting to Cambodia. The knife was already rusty when I took it out 3 days after arrival. The edge wasn't sharp and I never managed to sharpen it to my satisfaction. It was like carrying a butter knife around my neck, pretty disappointing. It also fell out of the kydex sheath many times and I would feel it bouncing around loose in my shirt, which was pretty disconcerting. I finally noticed it was gone for good after a trip to the beach.

Don't miss it at all, but I feel bad because I hope nobody stepped on it.

I lost a Shrade Old Timer lock back with green scales and a single blade while fishing. It fell out of my pocket whilst going back and forth between the car and rod's set up. Still kicking myself in the teeth over that. :(

I've lost a few. The one I miss the most is a Spyderco Standard. It appears to have fallen from my pocket in a West Virginia movie theater. Spyderco doesn't make it anymore, despite it being the one that started it all, and I've never been able to locate one on the auction sites.
That smokes my heinie less than the Bali-Song Inc. butterfly and the AG Russell locking toothpick I had stolen from me by "friends" or the AG Russell coral rucarta Sting 1A that I had confiscated from me by airport security in Philadelphia (back in 96!).

I lost a Spyderco Calypso Jr. a few weeks ago. So, I ordered one of the new laminate blade Calypso Jrs. It arrived, I used it one day, and promtly found my old knife.

So, now I have a backup.

What is weird is how "off" you feel when you don't have your knife. As a cop, I habitually do "checking" behavior. Just casually touch my sidearm (CCW or duty), flashlight, cell phone, knife, whatever "gear" I carry, just to make sure it is there and properly postitioned. That missing knife might have weighed an ounce or two, but it felt like a huge item was gone. Plus, it seems like I had about a billion opportunities to open stuff in the two weeks I was Calypso-less.

Yes, I have other carry knives, but nothing fits in a pocket quite like a "cheap" Spyderco. The Calypso is the perfect light-use knife.
