Hi Everyone; flexible here. I was at the range today and my VERY old Bushnell Holo-sight is just about gone. It eats up betteries (the old N type) like crazy and the dot is very hard to see.
The sight is rail mounted (Caspian style, on the frame) of my custom Colt .38 Super race gun.
Does anyone have recommendations?
I need: quick target acquisition, a bright image and hopefully a newer battery requirement.
I came into a few bucks and can afford to go as high as &750.
thanks

If you read my recent thread, you will see that I have a lot of experience buying the wrong red dot. I have learned a lot from my experiences. I hope that will help me advise you. Your budget is quite generous, more than enough for the gold standard Trijicon RMR and even enough for the platinum standard Leupold.

But do you really need one of those? The Burris recommended above is a fine choice as is my latest acquisition, the Vector Venom. The Burris can be had for under $200 and the Vector for just above $200. The both work fine, hold up well, and come with the rail mount you need. They both also fit on the non-rail mounting bases that Burris makes.

The main question is are they bright enough. I suggest you pick one of them, buy it from Amazon, try it out without mounting it on your gun. If you can see the dot in bright sun, you are good to go. If not send it back and try the other. If still no good move up to the $400 level. It is unlikely you will need to go to gold or platinum unless you are Delta Force. Amazon will enable you to experiment at little cost except perhaps return shipping. Good luck.

Also you need to decide on MOA of the dot. I like 3 MOA as a compromise between precision and brightness and speed of acquisition. The 6 or 8 MOA alternatives provide really quick acqusition at close range. They are not very good at longer range due to low precision.

I have these on each of my S&W M&P Pro-L's ... no batteries, these are rugged and work well. They say the green is easier to see but I have amber:
