Does anyone out there have any experiences with the Italian made double barreled .44 pistols produced during the late '50s through the '60s?
The gun I am looking at is a Renegade , imported by Intercontinental Arms , and this particular speciman is dated 1962.
I'm considering buying it to either give to my boy for his 19th nameday next week, -or- if that reasoning fails me, I might treat myself to it for Dad's day coming up.
If its in great shape what's it worth?
What size balls and caps would it need?

Is it a rifle or smoothbore pistol? I'll have to check that one out.

If you'e thinking about a big double barrel smoothbore pistol check out the Pedersoli Howdah Hunter. This is a current production model i20 g smoothbore, 12 " sxs percussion pistol w/ an optional detachable stock. The folks who have shot them say they are fun, but pricey. It was in stock at my local Cabelas. $699. Stock is extra. I'm thinking about one these for the fun factor.

I had one, maybe 20 yrs ago. It was .44 cal rifled bore, can not remember what size ball, but do remember the balls for my .44 revolver were too big. Fun gun, don't remember what happened to it.

I had one as a teen and mine took .435 balls and pillow ticking patches. This was back in the mid 60's and I know that it was accurate enough to kill rabbits at 30'. I do remember the left trigger was a very hard pull and I mostly used the right barrel for hunting.

I think he's talking about the Corsair, that was offered in .36 and .44 cal.
If you have Ralph Walker's Black Powder Gunsmithing, you can see it in the back of the book, in the section on BP guns that were available at the time.

Doing a search of this board using Renegade or Corsair will give you hits on this gun.

I only handled one decades ago and got talked out of it by friend.
