Stopped at Gander Mountain on the way home from work today to look around. I tried out a Glock 21 to see how big the grip actually was, and my hands barely fit! Very uncomfortable.

So I asked to try and see how a 1911 fit in my hand...much better :)

I think I know which I would rather purchase. Now I just need some dough!

2x stack 1911

Try a double stack 1911. I hefted a Para double stack 45 that was a whole bunch more comfortable than my Glock. While I like my Glock 30, I have to admit it is a box.

Try a Browning Hi-Power. They are a double stack that are very comfortable for smaller hands.

Is it true what they say about guys with smaller hands?

Well...lets see...I also have liliputian hands...and of the single stacks i have, some are better, some are worse.

For instance, my double stack Steyr M9 has a thinner grip, and fits my hands WAY better than my single stack sig p239.

If you want to keep double stack capacity with a slim grip, the steyr is the way to go...even my tiny hands DWARF my wifes midget paws, and she can hold and shoot the steyr comfortably.

I love Para Double stacks!

My hands are probably larger than most and a nice double stack 1911 with Hogue grips fit perfectly. I like the standard 1911 grip as well. Para's really aren't a whole lot bigger than a single stack. Just seems to fill my palm a little better.

Try it, you might like it.

I have BIG hands and the only DS pistol that I think has a really decent grip is the BHP. The Glocks, Beretta 92/96s and SIG P226 all require at least a small change of grip to work the controls.

G21 and small hands...

My hands are not large by any means, but the Glock G21 fits my hands nicely. I have shot it one-handed and was a halfway decent shot with it. Two handed is just fine. Putting my hand on it, the index finger naturally falls perfectly on the trigger.

Maybe it's that it was my first semi-auto and I didn't have anything else with which to compare it.

Can't really group the G20 and G21 with all double stacks.

The G20 and G21 do have larger than average double stack grips, but I still find them very controlable. I've never almost dropped one due to grip size.

Remember, the BHP and CZ75 is a double stack design and I think the CZ75 is about the most comfortable grip I've ever experienced in a pistol, including the 1911 which I also find quite comfortable.

I'm starting to gravitate towards the single-stacks lately. My hands are very slightly smaller than an average male's.

The thinner the better. Even the Browning Hi-Power seems a little thick to me.

I have the opposite problem

I'm 6'5" and have enormo-hands. I was handling a CZ75 over the weekend at a show in Mpls and couldn't believe how "small and thin" it felt. Then I felt up a SIG P228. That too seemed "small". Then I tried a Steyr M9 and that was smallish as well.

The good news is I can carry any "normal" sized pistol as a compact and any compact sized pistol as a sub-compact.

Ergonomics are important to some people.

I also have small hands and having been searching for the perfect "fit" for me for 20 years, and I believe that I finally found it: SIG 225

High quality, reliable, durable, accurate, single-stack, DA/SA pistol. Don't believe anything you hear about them no longer being made! They are currently being made in Germany and are available. I just paid $630 for mine, but CDNN had them recently for $499!! Unfortunately, they're sold out.

I have owned the following pistols: Rossi .38 snubby, Taurus 6" .357, Walther PPK .32acp, Walther PP .32acp, Walther PP .22LR, Steyr M9 9mm, SA Mil-Spec .45acp x2, 1958 Colt Government Model .45acp, Kimber Stainless Targret II 9mm, Dan Wesson Pointman Major 9mm, 1934 Colt Detective Special .38, Colt 1903 Hammerless .32acp, Colt Police Positive MK V .38, S&W Model 10 .38, Ruger Birdshead Vaquero .357, Ruger Bearcat .22LR, SIG 226ST 9mm, Beretta 92FS Vertec 9mm, and the SIG 225. And out of all of those if I had to chose to keep only one........it'd be my new SIG 225!!

I recently shot a Browning Hi-Power MK III, and while it fit my hand well it had a sorry, sorry, gritty, awful trigger!! (sorry Hi-Power fans)

If you have a chance, try the SIG 225, I don't think you'll be disappointed!!
