I sold most of what I collected over a lifetime to a dealer in Houston, noice folks "Collectors Firearms". Now, please don't tell me how I could have done so much better if I had sold them to your Uncle Fudd.

Anyway, down to:
blue steel Ruger Redhawk 5.5 inch,
Ruger Deerfield carbine,
Norweigan Krag 6.5 carbine,
Mossberg 835 (for those 3.5 inch shells),
Stoeger 12 guage Coacg Gun.

That ought to get me through my remainining days out here in the southern Rockies. The elk about walk up to me since they feed on my bales. The two and four footed predators can be handles with either shotgun.

As with some other old men, I am leaning towards buying a Ruger #1 in .30-06. There is something about the simplicity and purity of a single shot rifle that is appealing after a lifetime of bolt actions, lever action, slide action, semi-auto action.

Anybody else ever get that notion?

I get a kick out of visiting Collectors Firearms. Its like visiting a museum or library vault. Except at Collectors Firearms, you can walk out the door with a goodie or two of your own.

If you managed to get that Deerfield to shoot less than dinner plate patterns at 100 yds, please tell me your secret.

Regarding 'notions', did you ever get the notion to fool around with a telephoto lens rather than a telescope?

Thanks,

salty

I used to frequent Collectors Firearms quite often when I lived in Houston. I think it used to be over on Fondren, if I remember correctly. What a great store, like being in a museum, only better because it has an outstanding "gift shop" there too.

I plan on attending a conference in Houston just so I can go to collectors firearms.

Pairing down collections is not unique to "older" men.
I sold fifteen handguns, four rifles, six shotguns, and a couple of rimfires over the last four or five years. I carry a 2" model 10, I have ONE 1911, ONE HiPower, a 4" 19, a 4" 629, an 870, a M500, a CZ .22 carbine, and a Bolt .308.
Thats all. Yep, WAY down from the old collection, but my wife is closer to her degree, and we won't have student loans to pay, and I still shoot.

YEP! I've got the same itch! I'm 60 and was weaned on an M16. Now, I don't even want a black rifle. I like beauty, simplicity and accuracy instead.

Give me wood instead of plactic. Unless we're talking about Glock. To me a Glock is a simple yet elegant weapon, and it's easy to clean.

I've been recently thinking about this very thing. Selling about 2/3 of what I've collected over the years. My thought was to get a table at the next gun show in the area and price them to sell.

I don't have any swords to sell though...:neener:

i have been in there a few times over the last 6 months.. not very friendly and although i had a pretty good chuck of change in my pocket no one seemed to want to deal with me. its a nice store to kill some time in though.

I agree, the few times I've called them they've been really short and rude to me.

I've yet to meet some really nice gun shop owners.

I've sold off 1/3 of my accumulation over the last couple years. As I get older I want to carry less around. I have one son, if he got them, it would be payday. Joe

I've thought about selling off all of mine but maybe a half dozen or so but when I try paring the list down, I just can't do it. I've sold some in the past that I wish I had back and I don't want to do that again. I'll just let my son worry about what to keep and what to sell after I'm gone.

Your invited to Hunters Den in New Ulm, MN !

Owner is a friend of mine and workers have to pass the friendly test to stay. Indoor handgun range, so come prepared . (OK - so I plugged the place ! - We are social critters and like people .)

Guns : I like them all, and have had dozens of different firearms over the years. In my more senior years now I still have a part of me that will gladly never grow old or bored of new shooting irons, or the old ones. I just yesterday traded my .22 auto for a single shot .22 rifle that is the model of my first gun. A Remington Model 510 Targetmaster . This one is no safe queen pristine gun. It looks it years, but still shoots well. Perhaps it may even be my old gun ?

I have over the years reduced my stockage down to a few basic firearms. Not realy because I wanted to, but wether need to, or want to , just don't sell them all.

And to the OP --- No .22 RF's ?

A question for you folks who are selling off parts of your collections, what are the reasons for why you are selling it?

Are you selling most of you collection to supplement your retirement?

Selling them because you're no longer interested in the firearms you are selling?

Selling them because you're moving to a place where you can no longer keep them?

daskro - I've been selling parts of my collection becuse I just can't use them as I used to due to my health. It's so frustrating to want to do something in the worst way and yet cannot do the activity because of ones health. The two heart attacks I have had each occured while I was out hunting. I was hunting pheasents the first time and scouting good deer hunting spots the second. Both times I was so far away from help that I almost died and as a consequence much damage was done to my heart itself. So, my activities are limited, but I suppose I will die doing what I love to do most - enjoying the mountains near my home.

Daskro,

I'm thinking of it because I simply have a lot of arms I don't shoot anymore and figure I might like the cash instead. (Likely to be used on other gun stuff)
