I saw a DPMS LR-308 MOE model for sale at my local Sportsman's Warehouse, and was intrigued. I've been considering a DPMS .308 for a little while now, and I have researched them considerably, but I've never ran accross the MOE edition. It looks to be the 7.62 Oracle model with Magpul furniture.

After seeing it in the store, I did an internet search for it, and found absolutely nothing. Has anyone else seen one of these, and what kind of prices have you seen on them? I'd like to know if Sportsman's price is fair for the rifle.

Best prices on DPMS are found at Rguns and Nelson Tactical.

Be sure to look at the free-floated barrel models LR-308B and LR-308t before you buy the "Oracle" or other plastic handguard models. Hardly any extra cost for a free float.

Thanks for the heads-up on Nelson Tactical. I went to their website, and it looks like they have access to every model DPMS makes, and there are a LOT of them. However, I still didn't see a MOE version of the .308. I wonder if it's something that Sportsman's Warehouse puts together themselves.

Anyway, their price was $999. The best I've seen on the Oracle is $995, and with the Magpul upgrades, I would think this rifle would normally sell for about $1200. If it's still there next week when I'm able to get back to Sportsman's Warehouse, I'm going to give it a new home.:)

The "magpul upgrades" would be worth $100 tops if it consists of 3 pieces of MOE furniture.

I wouldn't be surprised if SW did this themselves. Also, many manufacturers will do special runs just for one distributor or major retailer, that's also possible.

The LR-308t is about $926 and will probably shoot 1 MOA with good ammo, much more accurate than is likely with the Oracle.

I've considered the LR-308T, but the raised height reciever rail forces the user to mount optics and sights higher above the bore line than the standard height A3 reciever rail does, and I'm not interested in that.

The Magpul forend and stock do only cost about $90, but the Oracle uses the A3 style reciever with the standard height rail. It also has the forward assist/shell deflector and dust cover which, while not especially useful, do add value to the rifle. If I want a free float, I can convert it much more easily and inexpensively than I can the receiver.

DPMS will mix and match almost any combination of their parts if you're willing to wait for a custom build. If you're not in a hurry, you might contact Nelson Tactical (or whoever) and ask about getting an LR-308t built with the A3 standard height receiver, which is an optional upgrade on any model. Rguns stocks the 308b with that receiver, but of course that is a much heavier barrel and may not be the place you want to buy from anyway. You can also get the M4-styled models assembled with a free float from the factory, either plain tube or quadrail. Just my 2 cents, buy whatever you like best.
