I have a friend who is wanting an AR style rifle and and found tow on the used market...for about the same price and both are wet up the same as far and stocks sights etc...one is a DPMS the other is a Bushmaster...both are in great shape...which is the best...if you had to chose which one would you buy and why please

lol well tell your buddy dpms and bushmaster are owned by the same copany now....there are olympic, rock river, stag, colt, double star,i own a olympic and i'm very very happy with it...stag also ranks high in my opion....every AR-15 on my list here are fine rifles tell him to pick the rifle that best fits his needs wants....stock,barrel twist, sights, barrel lenth....witch ever brand has the rifle just the way he wants it there ya go

Givin the two choices i would say the DPMS. I recently saw one I liked. It was a very basic AR but basic and simple is the way to go.

I hate when people saint around the dog gown question. the man gave us 2 choices! So, man up and pick one of the 2 choices. and if the man wanted another choice he would have put it on there...:neener::evil::eek:

Get a Rock River Arms instead. Same quality, if not better, than either DPMS or Bushie but typically a little cheaper than at least DPMS. A stock M16A2/M4gery will run about $700-800.

If I had to pick between the two, get the DPMS.

Of the two choices...
Bushmaster is overpriced.
Go with DPMS.
Being owned by the same company does NOT make the products equal.

Are they both owned by Cerberus now?

Both build great rifles. I bought a Bushie because it was at the right price.

I have seen the DPMS kits for a couple hundred less than a Bushmaster (then again I haven't seen a Bushmaster kit). I think it's either you want the Colt and are willing to pay more for it or you just want an AR type rifle and aren't willing to pay Colt's top shelf price.
I have only heard negatives about Olympic Arms ARs. The Bushmaster, Rock River, and DPMS all make their owners happy.

birdbustr......most people who don't like olympic have never owned one
i do i'm very very happy with it dad was so impressed with it he bought the upper right off of it to go on his colt ......now i'm waiting on my new OLYMPIC 20INCH FLAT TOP to get here....i allmost ordered a stag but then i thought hey if it isn't broke don't fix it so i ordered another olympic!

I didn't mean to make it sound like everything I've heard about Olympic ARs was bad, I meant that I have heard (or read on this site some complaints) about the Olympics, but nothing bad about the others.

i have owned a total of 2 bushmasters and curently have one now. i always recommend the bushmasters. i have alot of experience with many of thier various models. and they have all been excellent. they are accurate ad reliable. and they will serve you well, i run mine hard and i have had zero issues.

M+p Ar!!!!!

Ive got the m+p 15 AR an love it i put about 3000 rnds threw it so far and no problems. the gun is basically a stag . I can pretty much hit a zit on a nats ass at 100 yards with my EOtech !! i think thats pretty good ? (anyone own the new beretta px4 storms? if not i rec it SWEET !!!!! see ya guys -joe

If you buy an M&P there's a promotion where you get a Sigma for $99.

He is looking at a used DPMS and has no idea how old it is.

Is it a newer good one, or possibly an older one that's not as nice?

He's therefore safer with the Bushy.

I realize this isn't the question at hand but figured I would throw it out anways... I don't know what price he's looking at for these two AR's but it would be a good chance that he could buy a lower receiver and a nice upper and have a brand new rifle for less than what he will pay for one of these used rifles.

My last three AR's were put together buy myself and were much cheaper than a buying a complete rifle.

I bought a new olympic about 3 years ago. Mags fit tight, some milspec that fit in my dmps don't fit in the oly. I have an upper that fits on the dmps, but not the olympic (but the oly upper fits on the dpms--go figure).

That said, I really like the olympic and its stupid accurate.

Out of the two, I'd go dpms.
