Hey guys, lots of new faces I see. I haven't been around much for the last couple of years, but felt this was important enough for the Texas and Oklahoma people to know. If it was already posted I apologize.

Dr. David E. Avery, 76, of McKinney passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, due to complications of myelofibrosis.

Dr. Avery was born in 1932 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas to William Oliver and Dottie Mae Avery. He was raised in Longview, Texas. Upon high school graduation, he attended the University of Texas in Austin, where he met the love of his life and wife of 56 years, Patricia Homeyer. They were married in 1951. After graduating in 1953 with a degree in pharmacology, Dr. Avery practiced as a pharmacist for two years in Port Arthur, Texas. He then attended Baylor University Dental School in Dallas while continuing to work as a pharmacist. Upon graduation in 1959, he moved his family to McKinney and began his 48-year career providing the dental needs of his patients until 2007.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, William O. and Dottie Avery; his brother William O. Jr.; his brother Paul Avery; his sister-in-law Nita Avery; his son David Mark Avery, M.D.; and his aunt Dorothy Lomax and husband Presley.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pat; son Stephen Avery and wife Betty of Houston; daughter Karen Henderson and husband Jim of Aransas Pass; son Tim Avery of McKinney; daughter-in-law Jane Avery of Missouri; and sister-in-law Ginny Avery of Port Arthur. He is also survived by eight wonderful grandchildren, Cheryl, Stephanie, Erica and G.W. Avery of Houston; David Phillips Jr. of Garland and Cami LaFollette, and Nick and Clayton Avery of Missouri; all of whom he was extremely proud.

“Doc” is best remembered for his love of family, friends, patients and dentistry. He also avidly enjoyed reading, hunting, and fishing. He will also be remembered for his keen sense of humor and teasing manner.

A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2008, in the chapel at First Baptist Church of McKinney, 1615 W. Louisiana.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of McKinney in lieu of flowers. Services are being handled by Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home of McKinney.

Man!

Sad to hear! I bought a S&W .22 from him back in the late 90s. Felt weird picking it up from the receptionist of his dentist office...
