Quick turkey hunting story: My in-laws have 40 acres surrounded by woods and it produces a good flock of turkeys. Their strategy is to set up a blind the evening before with a couple of decoys, then go out before daylight the next morning and wait for a turkey; they don't use a call. this seemed inadequate to me, but they have shot 3-4 turkeys this way over the past 2-3 years, so I can't quibble about their success. They invited me to use the blind (a moveable chair blind) this year, so I'm thinking with my calling I'll surely get a turkey. I tried 3 different morning over the past 2 weeks, seeing turkeys everyday, but they wouldn't come close enough for a shot. At the end of the 3rd day I was debating my next move and the in-law suggested just leaving the blind and come back in a day or 2. I went back today to pick up the blind because I don't have time to go out. As I approached the blind and the decoys (without a gun of course) there was a big tom in full strut right next to them. The decoys and blind were surrounded by 7-8 turkeys, obviously they are smarter than I am.

:D Years back on our deer lease, one of the old-guy hunters would drive down to a stock tank and sit and watch from his car, looking for a young six-point size "eatin' buck".

He didn't show up for lunch, one day, so we drove down to check on him. He was sound asleep in his car, with turkeys on the roof, hood, trunk lid and all around on the ground.
