I just found out I drew a Javelina tag in AZ. My main rifles are a 7mm Rem mag and a 243 win. I would really like to hunt with my 7mm but currently I am running 168 grain Berger bullets which might be a bit much for a Javelina. What bullet would you suggest for antelope that would be fine for Javelina as well? I'm thinking that I will have enough points to draw an Antelope tag this fall in Utah or if the Antelope doe tags increase in WY I have enough points to draw there as well so I have been think about working up a lighter bullet for longer range Antelope rounds.

I would really like to shoot a Javelina with a revolver or pistol if I get close enough put will probably pack the 7mm or maybe the old win 94 30/30, to many choices.

Javelina are pretty small animals. I would think really any hunting bullet in either .243 or 7mmRM. The 7mm is definitely overkill, but I don't see a problem with it. I'd just go with whatever rifle/scope combo you enjoy using the most. If they are comparable, I'd use the .243 with whatever bullet you normally load.

I've only killed one so far. .223 with a 55gr vmax out of a bolt action. 150 yards and he went about 5 feet. Lungs and heart were toast. Backstrap and hind quarters all intact. I am hoping to someday take one with my .30-30 contender pistol with a 14" barrel. 125gr ballistic tip at 2200ft/sec.

Good luck and have fun.

The 243 would be enough gun for sure no need for the 7 mag u less you shoot it better. They are much smaller than feral hogs. 60 lbs would be a pretty good size javelina.

Any heavy, big game, hunting bullet that has limited expansion will make a cleaner pass through hole and work better than a light varmint bullet that blows up on impact and turns the entire beast into hamburger. Nothing wrong with overkill, if the overkill portion is routed into the dirt on the other side of your target instead of all used on it.
