Has anyone had to do this? I'm no smith, but the directions seemed simple enough. I clamped the slide down and used a punch with a hammer, and that thing will not budge.

I don't want to buy a site pusher. It's there anything else anyone has gotten to work?

The front sights are really tight.

Lots of people recommend penetrating oil. What I did was to put the slide in the freezer over night to shrink the metal. Worked for me.

I also modified a punch to have a flat to contact more of the dovetail.

Also, don't forget to tape around the area so you don't mar the slide.

IF a gunsmith is available locally, they are generally pretty reasonable about it-just make sure to have the replacement sights so they can mount them for you. Sometimes, smaller gunstores will do it for you if you buy the sights from them. One of my local stores did that and also bore sighted it to check alignment of the new night sights for a Sig.

BTW, do not recommend using a punch to install tritium sights--too easy to crack the vials.

Tried putting it in the freezer for a couple of hours. No dice. That thing is on there *tight*

I can't tell the future, but it looks like a sight pusher is in your future. There is a guy on the Smith and Wesson forum that sells them. I need one, but no spare cash laying around.
