I recently bought a Maverick 88 home defense 18.5 inch barrel shotgun. I put a Hi Viz Tactical snap on front sight on it and went shooting in my back yard. The gun fired and cycled everytime but the trigger pull was stout. I don't have a gauge but it has to be close to 10 pounds or more, it was really hard to pull and keep on target. Is it ok to dryfire?, or should I use and empty? I want to try and get that trigger smoothed out some. Thanks

Good afternoon thank you for your email. You can dry fire your Maverick 88 but we do not recommend doing it repetitively without using snap caps. So we do recommend purchasing some snap caps to use when practicing.

I felt the same way about the trigger and ended up purchasing the Mcarbo trigger spring kit which reduced the trigger pull to a more acceptable pull without having to work the trigger.

If you are not so mechanically inclined you could buy some snap caps or make some yourself and work the trigger. When I looked for reliable 12 gauge snap caps most I found had crappy reviews due to the material used for the hull quickly becoming deformed. I ended up taking an empty shell and replacing the spent primer with a pencil eraser in place of a "snap cap."
