I've always heard that dry firing certain firearms can damage them and that with some it is OK. What about a Mosin Nagant?

I very much doubt you could do much to it. The things about as big as a pencil. I dry fire mine all the time.

My younger brother owns an M44. He seemingly dry fires it all day long. Barring something stupid, like puttin' yer Mosin under a truck, you can't "break" it. The Energizer Bunny should be carrying a Nagant. :)

Seeing as how you asked the question I presume you haven't taken the bolt assembly apart.

Seeing as how you've named your rifle, I assume you are "into" your guns enough that you have taken the bolt assembly apart for cleaning.

If you HAVEN'T taken it apart then head over to http://www.surplusrifle.com for full (illustrated) instructions on how to do it. Take a gander at the firing pin when you get her apart.

Beefy? I pondered using one as a punch tool in a pinch once but decided against it. I figured there was a 5% chance I might hurt the thing with a hammer. :)

Giga,

"Seeing as how you asked the question I presume you haven't taken the bolt assembly apart."

Yeah, I did take it apart AND miraculously figured out how it all twisted back together. :) I don't have enough guns or the experience to know exactly what use and abuse they can handle. Figured there'd be a couple of MN old hands here.

"Seeing as how you've named your rifle, I assume you are "into" your guns ..."

I name almost everything I own. A recurve named "Sundown". My old truck is "Nasty Suzy". My MN is long and slender so I figured Svetlana was suitable. Seems there was a long, tall Svetlana spy chick in an old spy movie one time.

Thanks for the link.
