dryshod, muck or other

I had a pair of mucks. The briars tear up the cloth/neoprene uppers after a season or so. Unfortunately I've no experience with the other brand. I wear LaCrosse Grange. The old style, green high topped ones. They're good boots, I'm on my 2nd pair after 5 years of daily use on the farm and hunting.

I tried the arctic pro muck boots and they were pretty warm and comfortable but split out and started leaking pretty fast. I replaced them with a set of Dryshod and so far, I'm very happy with them.
I don't know if its true but I've been told that Dryshod was started by the guy who founded Muck Boot, after he sold Muck Boot and saw the quality declining.

Perhaps Muck has gone downhill. My current pair I bought in the fall of 2013. They have held up great. I often get out and wade in a creek to wash them off. They are still watertight.

I had a pair of guide gear fanatics that I got about 4 winters out of and loved them. When they were completely dead you couldn't get them anymore and I switched to muck after hearing all the rave reviews and I only got one winter out of mine. Its possible I got a bad pair, and its also possible that I'm just really hard on boots. Mine split at the ankles relatively fast and I should have tried to take advantage of the warranty right away. My girlfriend still wears muck boots and seems to get at least 2 winters out of a pair and she wears them daily at the barn. I haven't necessarily written them off but I wanted to give Dryshod a try before I risked another pair of 200 dollar boots only lasting one winter. I'm on my 2nd winter with the dryshod and so far so good.

Hunter wellies. Not just for Christmas. For life. Get the neoprene 3mm lined (Ballmoral) model for warmth.https://www.hunterboots.com/gb/en_g...moral-field-classic-wellington-boots/green/40

A lot of videos and reviews i have read said that mucks have a hard time surviving a year of normal use.

I do a lot of welding and shop work and I never wore them in there, but I'd wear them in a horse barn doing chores and would wear them hunting and what not. I guess I had them on and off a lot which might have contributed to the ankles splitting. They were very warm and comfortable, but very expensive for a boot I'd only wear half the time from december to march.

One thing I really liked on the guide gear boots I had was they had an adjustable strap on the calf area. There was a fold in the rubber and you could tighten the top of the calf down once the boot was on. That was really nice for getting your jeans tucked in comfortably. Neither my muck or dryshod boots had this feature and they are kind of a pain to get on and off. I couldn't find anything locally at the time to try on that had that feature, but I think some of the other brands are made that way and I may hold out to find a pair next time I'm buying.
