I took my new (new to me) Mosin 91/30 out to the range today. It fired great:evil: . I had to use a little Kentucky Windage, it shoots a wee bit right. Once I got that down pat, I nailed the 200 yard target. Then I moved up to the 400 yard target and nailed it 3 times in a row before it broke/fell down.
Here is the cool part. My thirteen year old hit the 200 yard target with her Marlin 885 SS .22 Magnum  . I'm a proud daddy :D .
I was very impressed with everything with my new Mosin. Wife was happy it worked well. It is a kicker though, but my all steel shoulder handled it well. I may get a pad for it though. Any thoughts on that. Have any of you tried a pad????

Congrats on your new rifle!

You can drift that front sight over to the right to get your POI to match POA.

Yea, that steel buttplate is rough on the shoulder. I like this pad from Cabela's. It's easy to slip on and off so you can use it on different rifles. It dampens recoil very well too.

Pads

Yep, it kicks a bit. More with some heavy rounds. Just try a small from walmart, or a small limbsaver. Better yet, there is a PAST recoil shield, you wear it, and it does a bit better. Mosins are great/

A buttstock pad on your MN is a good thing to have is your wife or small children want to shoot it. :D

Real men just wear an extra sweatshirt and rub in some BenGay when they get home.

400 yards is a long way off for casual shooters, and hitting a reasonably sized target reliably is darned good shooting. Good work with that. By the way, did you try shooting it with the bayonet attached? I bet that would have corrected the windage problem.
Cheers,

Can't do it

I can't get my bayonet on all the way. It seems to get stuck just short of being able to lock on and then it is jammed:fire: . I tried to even oil it and same results.
It seems to shoot alot better then people have reported on this site.
