dumb 6.5x55 question

I have a 6mm Rem rifle that I may rebarrel, does the 6.5x55 require a long action? Alot of folks on the net have said it does but my 6mm is 6x57. Thanks.

Case length doesn't matter, OAL does.
6mm Rem max OAL = 2.825"
6.5x55 max OAL = 3.062"
Will they fit?

I'm trying to decide between rebarreling my 700 or my 1917.
Guess the LA would be more appropriate.
