Dumb sks questions...

Here's my Yugo with a Choate Dragunov-style stock and a receiver cover mounted red dot scope.

I don't like how much the scope moves around on the receiver cover, so I'm thinking of some sort of foward mount scout rail would be useful.

Oooh... pretty, I like it. I'll trade you? :D Just kidding...

That's about what I was thinking, plus maybe a bipod and one of those twist-and-set muzzle breaks. I'm going to have a local gunsmith put one of those choate drill and tap left side mounts probably, they seem to stay where they're put. Either that or the DC Engineering cover mount with the metal and rubber side rails to hold it in place and keep it from moving. Everybody who has those cover mounts seem to say they loosen up after a while - which would make sense. MY cover wiggles like a mofo.

How much did you pay for the stock, if you dont' mind me asking?

-Colin

I bought it from combatstocks.com for around $80. I choose the Choate over the ATI because the ATI feels like it weighs 3 times as much. The Choate also comes with spacers and screws so you can adjust the length of pull on the stock to whatever is comfortable.

I'd rather not go with a drill-and-tap mount because I can't bring myself to permanently alter the rifle. The stock it came with is in pristine condition and it has all-matching numbers, and I want to be able to swap them at will and have the original rifle back.

I've considered picking up a dinged-up Yugo and going to town on it by chopping the barrel, stipping the GL and bayo mount., and adding a muzzle break...just looking for a good deal on one. :)

She won't shoot 'em, but she'll buy parts for me for our aniversary!

Anyone know where to get that DC Engineering Scope Mount peice with the sides that come down for cheap?

I can't decide whether I should get the outrageously expensive DC one, the Leapers put-dents-in-the-receiver one, the B-Squared don't-get-how-it-stays one or the regular old file-and-replace one...

I'm definately staying away from that folding stock though. After reading the letters from the BATF about them on www.simonov.net, I think I may just have to stick with the Choate Druganov. With that CJweapons.com price, I'll easily be able to afford one... maybe a muzzle attatchment and a bipod too...

Does anyone know of the Choate Druganov's front sling mount will fit a bipod on it? (such as this: http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=22502353) And if so, how far forward is it? Will I be able to let the legs fold rearward when stored, or would they have to fold forward? Has anyone seen about how much these sell for at gunshows?

Thanks!!!!
-Colin

Here's my sks with a choate and an outers bipod. It fits right where the front sling goes. I think it is the same as the "shooter ridge bipod" that you posted. Also it folds forward. If you look around you can get the outers bipod for about $45 shipped. Mark

Nice, I like it. Hopefully mine will look like that soon...

How far down do the detatchable magazines stick below the stock? Enough room with a bipod to hold a 20 round? 30 round?

Who'd you have mount that scope for you?

Anyone know if it's possible to take off the bayonet lug mount without just cutting and blueing it? tap out the pin?

I'd also really like to get a trigger job done - is there any way they can take out the extra play before and after where the trigger actually breaks? All the places I've looked up on the internet are soley in the strength and smoothness of the pull, but I'd like more than that.

Sorry about all the questions, I've just fallen in love with this thing already.. although it does feel weird to spend more than the rifle cost on aftermarket parts!

-Colin

PS... I can't get the magazine out... trigger assembly comes out just fine, but the magazine feels like it sticks on something about a half an inch from normal...

The scope mount is factory. And the bipod can be extended. As for bayo lug, it and the front sight assembly are all one piece so you pretty much have to cut it if you want to get rid of the lug. Can't help you on the trigger job but you can buy lighter hammer and sear springs from wolff that will help the trigger pull. Here's a pic with the bipod extended:

My bayio lug and front site don't look to be the same, they look to be a few inches apart. Is your barrel shortened? Paratrooper? Mine looks quite a bit longer...

That rifle is a paratrooper. I installed the lug and sight on that rifle(nicer bluing than the old one). They are one piece.
