Posted a couple weeks ago about duracoating my XD my self with the kit they sell on the Laurey. well i finally got the cohonies and a brass punch set and went to work. first i did my Ruger 10/22 just to get the hang of it since it was in dire need of a new blueing on the barrel and new (powdercoat?) on the reciver. well it came out good. i wont say great because the reciver could use more work i would say lol.

well i stripped and cleaned my XD taped up some spots and went to work! it came out AWESOME!! i stuck it in the oven to dry faster and i cant get over how good it looks here are some pictures. they dont do justice to the final product. the sights look like crap but im giong to buy some new trijicon night sights for it and have them installed.

it was a kit from Laurey Weapons its a 2 part mix and you airbrush it on.

Looks good did you use the flat black on it? Post a picture of the 10-22 like to see it also. Thanks!

the color is combat black ill take some tonite of the 10/22 and post them tonite.
im going to be upgrading the 10/22 soon though :)

seems to be holding up great it says on the instructions it wont reach maximum hardness for abou 3-4 weeks

xd45gaper...

I have two XD's that need refinishing and will probably go with Duracote also. I already own an airbrush, so it should be an easy job.

What did you do in the way of preparing the surface before applying the Duracote? Do you carry your gun...curious how it will hold up as far as holster wear.

the kit came with a stripper but i also used Electronic parts cleaner to clean the oil off. that stuff works great one spray of my slide and it went from lubed up and black color to dull and grey! then i used the stripper that came with the kit and a red scrubbie pad and pulled most of the finish off cleaned it a couple more times and that was the extent of it. i also taped off a couple areas like where the firing pin comes out etc.

i also carry my gun but i havent carried it in the holster yet ive read from members on this forum here http://www.hs2000talk.com/ that you should wait 4 weeks before you carry in a holster. (edit mine seems hard enough to me i dont see how a nylon holster is going to do any damage! there are a couple guys on hs2000talk that will dura coat your gun profesionally for a very resonable price (same price i paid actually lol minus shipping)
