looking into these cheep, seemingly overlooked guns, any info or past experiences with them would be appreciated, would anyone say they are worth a hundred bucks?

I've never owned one myself but have seen and heard a thing or two about them.

They are dirt cheap to purchase. Acceptable accuracy despite being a bit clunky. Functional as any gun can be. Supposedly one of the best factory warranties of any manufacturer (they'll just send you a new one if you can break it, don't even have to be original owner).

BUT... Now I don't consider myself a shallow person but HiPoint handguns are unanimously some of the ugliest freaks among modern firearms. The ugliness of these guns cannot be overstated... they are really ugly. (yes i felt it was necessary to say they are ugly 3x)

Conclusion:
Functional and cheap
very ugly
worth every penny if you can stand to look at them

overlooked for a reason... well.. not quite overlooked.. more like sidestepped as the image is burned into your brain like one's naked grandmother.

I've seen a number of them at the range. I guess if you're interested in an inexpensive gun with less than normal reliability, get one. As an all around gun for carry and shooting I'd get something else. We get a lot of "virgin" shooters that show up at the range who think they got a great deal and end up being disappointed with HP.

I bought one because it was the most commonly encountered gun on the "street" where I work. I probably only put 150 rounds through it. Accuracy was okay. I hit what I was aiming at, but the groupings weren't very good.

I had numerous FTF's with the highpoint. All of them seemed to be magazine related. However, I didn't keep it long enough or shoot it enough to really determine the problem.

In the end I learned what I needed to. The gun would shoot and is accurate enough to get the job done.

I dura-coated it for fun and then sold it.

Is it worth $100? Sure, why not. Would I depend on it to save my life? Yes (a hesitant yes), but only if I didn't have a better (i.e. more reliable) option.

I heard the customer service and warranty are great.

I've put around 3000 rounds through mine. I didn't even clean it till I had some feed issues right around 2000 rounds. It does 1.5 inch 10 shot groups at ten yards. I hit pop cans at 25 yards regularly. Don't bother with the 10 round mags though.

My C9 is reliable enough. I traced my inital FTF problems to the magazines. The mag that came with it, and every one I've bought from the factory needed adjusting and smoothing. Even the 10 round mags work fine for me after adjusting the lips and breaking sharp edges on the followers. The bottom plates can be easily removed for disassembly once you figure out where to pry.
I tend to load the mags with one less round that full capacity. The first round then chambers more easily and it's easier on the thumbs when loading the mag.
Not all ammo works equally well in my C9, some of my reloads seem to be more accurate than most factory ammo.

Most problems I've heard of involved the mags too. They're the most popular guns on the "street' too at least that's what the anti gun cincinnati enquirer wrote about back in 04. They make em up in dayton ohio though so it doesn't surprise me. I heard a story about a cop around here finding one on a suspect with a magazine in it that had duct taped holding it together because it fell apart

Bought one for $100. Shot the heck out of it, no problems. Sold it to help fund another pistol. Guy that bought it says it has worked flawlessly.
Cheap, ugly, reliable, fairly accurate. Good gun to keep in the truck, you sure don't have to worry about damaging it.

Yes it worth the 100 I have a 45 HP and it shoots better than my Sigma 40 ve at 30 yards on out to 50.

I got mine as a easy on the pocket 45 that I can abuse with out any regrets.

Planning on getting a Hi Point .40, with a carbine to match.

I figure I need a .40, since there have been good deals on ammo both locally and on the internet that I've had to pass up, and everyday shooting ammo (as opposed to hollow points and other pricier ammo types) for 9mm and .45 have been getting scarce.

And I'm not enough of a .40 fan to spend lots of money on a weapon for it.

as far as the 40 S&W goes, i know where to get one at 100 bucks but have no reloading stuff for that caliber, any great advantage over the 9mm frame or mag cap, ever had cracks in the frame from recoil or anything?
