Dying Breed: Who Wears a Cowboy Hat....

Seconded on the tilley hat, or the vented packer hat. I wear one most of the summertime, since I'm caucasian- the other white meat.

Nope. The cowboys = guns mindset was long since past by the time I got into shooting. Don't own a cowboy hat, boots, or any other western attire :).

Typically I'll just wear either a baseball cap or no hat at all when shooting.

Got a few, but don't wear them as often as I'd like. Damn headrest in the car keeps me from wearing one when driving.

I've never worn a cowboy hat, never found one that fit/look right on me. I wore a baseball cap anytime I left the house from age 18-24ish, then I turned into somewhat of a greaser and started wearing my hair more. Now, I never wear hats indoors therefore I rarely wear one unless I know I won't be going indoors once I leave the house, like on a car cruise or something.

Out here in God's Country we wear them all the time, straw in Summer and felt in Winter. Stetsons are getting a bit pricey for the good ones, but still the best. Keep shootin'

I've got a couple. I'm pretty hard on them, though. I don't wear them while shooting, just a nice comfy hat. I've got a flat brim felt and a curved brim straw. I like them both equally. Don't wear them often, usually a Veteran base ball hat or a knit cap for when it's cold.

Wife was born and raised on a horse ranch in TX. She's got at least 8 cowboy hats and 20 pairs of boots. We got married 8 years ago and she's still trying to get me to wear one. I will break down but two things stop me at this point:

1: Haven't found one that feels right
2: I feel like a fake wearing one since my total saddle time at this point is about 2.5 hours.

I see a guy wearing one and I can just tell whether he's wearing it as a normal part of his day or he's "posing". I don't want to be one of the latter. Wife, on the other hand can come home from work dressed in business professional, put on a pair of Lee's, her boots and hat and looks like a really cute Annie Oakley. More important, she looks comfortable........and real.

Guess I need to start cause I see the look in her eyes when George Strait comes on the TV.:D

I'm trying to get the feel for being a hat guy but never have worn one much. I need to since I'm out in the sun almost from sunrise to sunset every day.

Biggest problem I have with cowboy hats at the range is that I can't wear earmuffs with the hat, and foam plugs just don't seem to work that well.

So, hat stays in the truck and I wear a baseball hat of some kind usually.

I do like the full brim because it's great for keeping brass away, but not being able to have good hearing protection is a bummer.

I've got a nice Charlie Horse that my wife got me as a gift. I've worn it a few times but find it hard to fit with the rest of my wardrobe (I'm more grunge than cowboy). I did wear it on my move down from VT to VA, though. Kinda felt long haul trucker-ish. I'd wear it hunting, but it's usually cold when I hunt and it's hard to keep the ears warm. I do really like that hat, though. Maybe I'll pick up some decent boots to give me more motivation.

Pretty much only when it rains to keep the rain off of my glasses. I don't much like wearing hats and it is somewhat inconvenient a lot of the time as my Momma taught me to take my hat off when indoors or in the presence of a Lady so it is less to think about.

If I ever get the chance to move back to the desert where I belong I will probably do so more often to protect from the sun.
