Are these decent handguns? Prices seem great

Isnt it various manufactures and EAA is just the importer?

Decent craftsmanship?

I believe that is correct. EAA imports the Tanfoglio line of pistols as well as a brand of revolver. Others will chime in soon with a more definite answer.

as far as quality goes on the Tanfoglio's, they are pretty good for the price. The witness series is a clone of the CZ 75 and can be had in .45 acp while the CZ cannot, so that's a plus.

i have the EAA WITNESS MATCH IN .40 AND .45 and i love them both. in my opinion you cant go wrong with the EAA. great accuracy. also, i have spent more money for other handguns and wasn't as happy with them as i am with my EAA.

haha oops, I forgot about the 97B. But the actions are different between the 97b and the 75s correct?

Tanfoglio pistols are very popular in Europe. They are great guns for the money. The problem in the States is EAA's horrible customer service, which is probably at the bottom of the barrel.

If you search this forum, you can find lots more discussions about Tanfoglio pistols and EAA, GunLvrNLrnr. (My bookmarks are lost)--but, like the others, I have owned numerous EAA pistols in .40S&W, 10mm, .45ACP, and the .22LR switch top. I've been satisfied, and have had no real problems with them at all--but others have, and still others have come up against EAA service--which apparently will not change.

The (CZ)-75 design serves up the best of many worlds, and a few negatives. Among the best is 1911 ergonomics, high capacity, and easy caliber change; the negatives include a 'negative' cant to the barrel axis, thus requiring a high rear sight, and a grip size requiring a large hand.

So, dig around some more and ask questions; you'll hear from both sides of the topic....

I've got a Witness Elite Match in 9. I am more accurate with this than any of my other half dozen nines. Very sweet single action trigger. It's a winner, especially for the money. I bought mine used so I don't worry about EAAs service. If I should develope a problem I would send it to someone else for repair.

It is a copy of the cz75 made in Italy by Tanfoglio, sometimes imported as the TZ-75, and variants there of.

they also bring in some other pistols like the yugo 9mm TT33

I know some serious gun dancers (idpa, etc) who swear that EAA brings the best action shooting guns to our shores.

My experience has been limited to one TZ75 in 9mm. It is built like a tank. It even survived my son in law who can ruin anvils and railroad track. Accuracy is comparable to a Sig or H&K. I have heard complaints about EAA customer service. Maybe it should not be your only pistol.

I saw a thread on another forum about a shooter who had a TZ97 fitted with a Barstow barrel, the pictures he posted showed accuracy comparable to a tricked out 1911.

Bottom line is that the Tanfoglio are very good looking pistols and accurate.

However quality control is spotty and unfortunately they are backed by a joke of a company (EAA) which I woudl not trust to run a lemonade stand, nevermind being in the firearms business.

Used are a better buy than new.....just buy parts from EAA if you need it.

I would not buy them new.

here is a pic of my witness silver team, comp barrel, single action trigger, drilled and tapped for aimpoint red dot, in .40 great shooter with my reloads. never a ftf.

The EAA witness series pistols made in the last five years give or take a year that I have seen are much closer to the large frame CZ 97 as opposed to the smaller frame CZ 75/85.

One other big plus for tanfoglio witness line is if you buy a 9mm and want a 10mm to ,,say hunt with, or a 40s&w, 38 super, 22 lr or 45acp just buy the upper and slide it on. CZ can't do that..

Okay so I have a question, is the CZ 97's action the same as the CZ 75s? In turn making the Tanfoglio Witness series the same action as those? I always thought it was just the whole CZ trigger/safety mechanism dropped into a slightly different frame? Is that accurate?

Nope. The Tangoglio Witness Elite Match is the gun the CZ97 should have been! The Witness is a slightly scaled up CZ75 to take .45ACP, the CZ97 is almost as blocky as the Glock 21.

I only recommend the Witness in .45ACP, as I've had mag issues in all the other calibers, they have been fixable, but generally you can only count on the mag that came with the gun working 100% from the start, replacements are iffy in my experience, in all but .45ACP.

One thing I do prefer the Witness for is you can cycle the slide with the thumb safety applied -- I wish all SA pistols were like this.

Wally I treat ALL semi=autos the same as far as mags go. Take them all apart, debur clean ,mic all the openings and ajust. I have not had a single problem in the 40 and 9mm that i do have . Now only have around 2000 rounds through the 9mm and a bit less in the forty. Just no problems. I think most people just load and shoot and then complane if they do have trouble. Thanks for covering the last question . I don't always visit each day. The 9mm kit i bought was not installed till i got to a indoor match. I did the mags and general cleaning at home but took for granted it would work. I did buy extra mags for both calibers. Installed the kit at the range and fired the first shoot on the course. Love the gun.

I had a one in 10mm.

Decent enough gun, the finish was a bit crude, numerous tool marks inside and out, but other than putting the brass into the next county it worked fine.

I picked up a Glock 20 and the Witness became a safe queen and eventually was sold to a friend who had a compact and wanted a full-size to go with it.

I think at $25-40 per mag I have the right to expect it to just work out of the wrapper without futzing around with it.

Surplus mags, Para Ordnance mags, and EAA mags are about the only ones I usually have to futz with. The surplus ones are "used" and at the very least need cleaning, but when something brand new doesn't work as advertised I think I have the right and duty to complain about it!

EAA used to import the "small frame" 9mm & .40S&W which are pretty much CZ 75 clones, along with the "multi-caliber" capable "large frame" guns. This accounts for some of the magazine confusion with older EAA Witness guns in 9mm & .40S&W. I think about 2005 they stopped importing the "small frame" guns.

EAA not only imports the CZ clones from Tanfoglio in Italy, they also import the Zastava EZ series of pistols which are quite impressive in themselves. They resemble a Sig in appearence, and have qualities that were taken from Sig and Walther. They were originally the "other" CZ. I have a TZ99 which is the same gun built by a now defunct company in South Africa called Tressitu. They import the extremely nice Zastava rifles too. Check out their website. I think you'll be impressed.
