Thinking about getting a eaa witness steal compact. 40sw. I was wondering what are some inputs on reliability and craftsmanship of this handgun or maybe another autoloader in the 430 Max price range. Any ideas would be appreciated. Basically what would u get for 430 and would the east witness be a contender. Thanks

I've got 4 10MM slides and a .45ACP slide set for mine, and they all run like a Swiss watch. That's probably the best idea for a pistol that has come out in a long time, and they're easy to shoot, carry, and maintain. When I buy ammo, I buy a few boxes for other guns, and cases of ammo for the Witness... too much fun not to keep it fed...

This gets so tiresome. Have you ever dealth with them, or are you just regurgitating what you've heard? Most of their bad rap comes from 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 12th hand accounts that have been wildly skewed.
I've never had a problem with them in the 10 years I've been dealing.
To the OP: Tanfoglio makes excellent guns, IMO you really can't beat them without spending a lot more money. I trust my life to my Compact 10mm. Yes, it's modified. I did the recurved trigger guard, the dehorning (including milling the front of the slide rails) and drilled/tapped the frame for a muzzle weight/compensator I built.
I've dealt with them plenty. Certainly more than I liked, since the treatment I've gotten has been horrible.
If you want details, just Google what I mentioned above and read my experiences. Then read other's experiences. There are a lot of them.
As long as the guns work, they're a terrific value. When they break, you often run into a brick wall with EAA.

And even if you don't, you have to pay to send the gun back to them under warranty -- even for things like a cracked slide in the first 200 rounds!

I love my Witness Elite Match pistols, but I've had issues with all their mags except for .45ACP and .38Super. The 9mm and .40S&W issues I was able to resolve, but I've never got the 10mm mags reliable enough for anything but a range toy usage.

Appraoching the quality of a Witness? No, at least not new. Many used guns that'll suit your budget, but you're not gonna beat the Tanfoglios for value.
Your call, but like I said, I've had no problems with EAA. Have two presently, my sister has one, several friends have them. Will be buying another to do my 10mm mag project.

well for 500 bucks you could pick up the gun that the EAA witness is based off of the CZ 75b. I own a 75b and they are a wonderful handgun tho I have been thinking about added a witness to my collection I really like that you can can the slide to pretty much any caliber.

I had a beautiful Pre-B 75 that I unfortunately had to sell. I liked the gun, but I like the feel of the larger framed Witness better.

I have a EAA witness match in .45. It's a lot of gun for the money. I've not needed their customer service so far. The gun has been flawless.
Consider the CZ75 compact. They are below $500. I doubt you will have any problems, but if needed, CZ has a decent rep.

I've had great luck with Tanfoglio made guns. I had a Witness FS Wonder Finish in .45 that was perfect. I only sold it for financial reasons. I have two "Mossad" 9mms now, the same as the old "small frame" Witness. Both of them shoot great and are very accurate. You can find used CZ-75's on Gunbroker for less than $350. Not the prettiest guns out there, but seem to shoot fine.

I've had no issues with their .45ACP pistols (or .38 Super), in fact the EAA witness Elite Match .45 is the gun the CZ97B should have been.
But the small frame Witness pistols (no longer available from EAA) avoid the problems of the short 9mm & .40S&W rounds in the .45ACP sized magazines that is the root of most of the unhappiness. So this good experience is not relevant to the current crop of EAA offerings.
The S&W M&P are great guns, my favorite of the polymer striker fired pistols so far. Also S&W sets the standard for customer service and support -- nobody is better, few if any are as good.
The CZ75B is a great pistol its hammer fired DA/SA that can do cocked and locked. Its the pistol the Tanfoglio pistols were scaled up to for the "large frame" Witness line. IMHO Tanfoglio made one worthwhile improvement -- allowing the slide to be cycled with the safety engaged.
These are two very different designs.
I agree, but only if you confine yourself to the .45ACP or .38Super models. In other calibers your happiness will depend on your luck with magazines -- mine has been less than stellar.
Never had an issue with any eaa products. Fullsize witnesses in 45 and 9mm. Also tried other cz "copies/clones" in form of CD jerico and baby eagle (both 9mm) and liked them both. For another reasonably priced metal frame auto, and I know I will catch flak for this cuz they are bigger and fugly, but I say ruger p-series. Owned a early p85 9mm that was stolen from me, and still own p90 45. Both ugly, yes. Both big and bulky, yes. Both accurate as hell, yes. Both dead nuts reliable after 1000s of rounds, yes. P85 had 2 ftf instances, one due to a crappy lead handload and the other to bad mag. Never had a failure with p90 stainless.

I'm kinda leaning towards a full size m&p 9mm. I'm seeing one on bud's for $454 shipped. I'm wondering if that's a price worth getting my hopes up on it's gonna be till july when I get my money. I've seen crazy price changes online lol. Also anybody who has full size m&p 9mm pics that would be helpful. Thanks
