EAA Witness Match Caliber Conversion Kits

Time to ask the experts, since the guy at EAA was extremely unhelpful and downright rude.

Will a standard caliber conversion kit fit a Witness Match frame without special fitting? I have heard conflicting reports on this. The guy at EAA say that *ALL* conversion kits need to be hand fitted to *ALL* frames. I know that's crap because I know people put caliber conversion kits on the standard witness all the time!

I want a 10mm Witness Match, but I don't want to have to pay to have a 9mm conversion kit be hand fitted to it.

I mailed EAA a while back asking if thier customer service is really as bad as the forums say it is--------no reply, just what I thought.

But I am getting a Witness Match in 38 Super so wish me luck, the guns are great but the importer is crap!!!

I have a steel witness with a wonder finish and an elite match. Both are 10mm.

I can interchange the slide assemblies, and the fit is tight enough I would have not concerns about shooting either gun.

A co-worker has a witness steel wonder finish. His top end fits fine too, as does his 22 conversion kit. Based on these experiences, I would have no concerns about ordering a new upper end (slide, barrel, recoil spring and guide rod) and dropping them straight onto either of my frames. I am sure accuracy would be enhanced by hand fitting.

(Of course, it is really easy for me to take the risk with your money.... I should have a 38 super barrel in a week or so. Before I send it off for re-chambering, I will test fit it and report.)

The 4.75" 38 super barrel arrived today. Some minor fitting will be required of the hood/top lugs for sure, and maybe the bottom lugs as well.

This is (at least to me) not entirely bad. I am confident in doing this work myself, and am sure it will result in a better fitting barrel when all is said and done.
